The third weekend of national juvenile track and field finals was held in Tullamore today. The weather was wet and miseable for the last two weekends and it is probably true to say that in addition to thunder and lightning more rain fell in Tullamore today as the heavens opened and for a time competition had to be suspended. Fair dues then to our athletes for their performances. Ellen Daly was first in action in 60m sprint. Finishing second in her heat she qualified for the final where she placed fifth in 8.90 seconds. With little time to recover she was lined up for the 600m final. In this she finished twelveth in 1.55.06. Then it was Mikey Phelan’s turn in the boys U12 60m. Giving it his best effort he placed sixth in his heat which unfortunately didn’t qualify for the final. Meanwhile Alex Cullen was competing in the combined events under 16. He had an excellent competition achieving a PB of 2,840 points. This was achieved through 3rd in 100m hurdles (15.28), 3rd in long jump (5.66), 2nd in high jump (1.65),  10th in Shot (7.85) and 6th in 800m (2.21.50).
