Apr 28 Day 1 – County Championships

The weather remained dry but cold for day one of the county Kilkenny Track and field championships held today in Scanlon Park. A good turnout from our athletes led to dominance in the relays with gold being the colour regularly achieved and  collecting a second set of relay medals in numerous races. Apr 20 saw Grace Richardson have a fine run in the 5000m at the Wake Forest Invitational, North Carolina where she clocked 16.38. Apr 26 Shay McEvoy and Peter Lynch were in action in Palo Alto, California. Both ran 5000m but in different races. Shay had a PB of 13.46.18 while Peter was a bit off his PB with 13.39.04.

Apr 25 South Leinster Schools

The Schools track and field season kicked off today with the South Leinsters in Carlow. A number of KCH athletes were involved with their respective schools. Loreto had - Ellen Daly 1-junior 200m; Blaithin Holden 2 - senior hurdles. CBS had Robert Coogan 2 -junior 1500, Alex Cullen 1-senior 400mhurdles, Billy Coogan 1- senior steeplechase, Paddy Kelly 3-senior steeplechase. St Kieran's had Kyrell Mtinsi 2- junior 200 and 3-junior long jump. Presentation had Sinead Cormack 2 -junior 1500 and 3- junior high jump,  Clodagh O'Callaghan 1-mile under 16. Colaise Pobail Osrai had Ruth Crowley 1- intermediate hurdles. [...]

Rita McGarvey took to London for the weekend to compete in the marathon and had a good run to finish in 3.48. Six went to Wexford where Jackie Varley, Roisin O'Dwyer and Joanne McSorley ran the 10K. Their respective times were 58.16, 59.02 and 59.52. Kate Sugrue, Oonagh Guilfoyle and Anne Marie Shortall went in the half marathon. Their times were Kate 1.42.09, Oonagh 1.42.09 and Anne Marie 1.46.08.

April Over in the USA

Four US based KCH athletes have seen track action during the month. Shay McEvoy (Tulsa), back in action after injury, had 28.36 for the 10K at the Cobb track and field in Palo Alto, California.  Hannah Kehoe (Uni of San Francisco), did the 1500 in 4.28 in Azusa, California. Maebh Richardson (Portland) had a PB of 16.31 for the 5000 at the Bryan Clay Invitational in California. Grace Richardson (NYU), had 4.26 for the 1500 at the Weaver Stadium in Princeton and followed that with 16.38 for 5000m at the Wake Forrest Invitational in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. [...]

Not many athletes in action today but good results. JUVENILES made it to the Ferrybank track and field with excellent returns. U9 - Cian McIntyre 1/300m; U11 - Daniel McIntyre 1/500m, 3/ 60m hurdles; U12 - Kate Kelly 1/500m, Julia Daly 2/500m. Ella O'Flaherty 2/500m; U13 - Marcus Lyons 2/80m, Bella Quaglia 3/Shot.  ADULTS -  Oonagh Guilfoyle went in the 5 mile in Dromona, Waterford (39.23) while Lorcan O'Toole did the Westport half marathon in 1.41.23.

Some inspiring achievements in diverse locations this weekend. Up in Belfast on Saturday Cathal O'Reilly scored maximum points for his DCU college team with victory in the 10000 on the Mary Peters track. His time was 31.25 .60. Down in Cobh, Co Cork, Meghan McCarthy took part in the Sonia O'Sullivan 10 mile. A really good run brought her into 4th female finisher in 1.05.15. Leanne Butler travelled a bit further - to Berlin. There she ran the half-marathon in a fine time of 1.34.36. Well done all.

Apr 5/6 National Juvenile Indoors

The national juvenile indoor championships were held in Athlone this weekend. These were, as expected, highly competitive with a number of new records established. KCH were not the recipient of any CBP but there were medals, PBs and many excellent achievements. RESULTS U12 - Isabella Quaglia 3/shot (8.23); Kate Kelly 4/600 (1.46.84); Cathal Comerford 5/long jump, 6/60m; Caelan Bambrick 8/shot; Teagin Mtinsi 7/shot. U13 - Daniel Greene 4/60m hurdles (10.01), 5/600; Conor Knox 4/shot(11.67). U14 - Mollie Rose Keegan 8/60m; Jasmine Timmons McEneaney 60m (8.53); Fiach Crowley 60 hurdles (10.66). A number of our younger juveniles took part in the St Senan's annual T&F  in Kilmacow today winning three sets of relay medals and a number of individual medals.  The relays were as follows:- first in girls U10, third in boys U10 and first in boys U12. Individual medals were as follows:-  Under 9 - Cian McIntyre 1st 80m and 3rd 30m. Jonah Cleere 2nd 80m. Under 10 - Eddie Kemple 2/300m.  Under 11 - Daniel McIntyre 1/300m. Apr 01 The Battle of Clontarf

We had four athletes taking part in The Battle of Clontarf today. In other words we are talking about the Leinster 10 mile road race held in Raheny. Times for a number of teams were very close and with every second counting our men made every second count and on countback were awarded the silver medals. In addition there were three individual medals. 12th Denis Vasiljevs 2nd O/40 (58.56); 15th Graham Bourne 3rd O/45 (59.23); Andrew Smyth2nd O/35 (59.45). Pat Purcell 11th O/45 finished the race in67.10.
