Mar 21/23 The 2024 O/35s ETC

After a number of weather related cancellations the 2024 county O/35 cross country went ahead in Thomastown tonight. KCH with a small number of athletes involved scored second team in the ladies led home by Oonagh Guilfoyle in bronze medal position.  The men fared somewhat better to take team gold with Paddy Walsh winning individual silver. As  a consequence of the additional points (5) KCH with 32 points claim the senior cross country cup for 2024. St Joseph's were second with 19 and Gowran third with 18. 16/17 March Roads: Here and Away

A number of athletes took to the road races in diverse places. Fiona Brennan had a Marathon PB in Rome of 3.58.55. Sophie Cunningham was in New York doing the half marathon in 1.55.00. David Devine ran the 10k in Skerries in 42.18 while his son Daniel won the U16 mile in 5.47. Neil Gunning was up the mountain finishing the IMRA South East League of 8.75k in 1.17.00. Eight others completed the Streets of Portlaoise 5k. Jamie Gahan was 1st O/40 in 15.06; Jacinta Mulroe was 2nd O/40 in 20.03. Remaining times were Paula Hynes 22.37; Michael Grogan 21,21; [...]

15/16 Mar Leinster Juvenile Indoors

This was a busy weekend for the club with big numbers taking part in the Leinster Indoors in Athlone. Athletes competed in walks, 60 and 200 sprints, 400, 800 and 1500, shot, long jump and high jump. The athletes had good parental support with a number volunteering for officiating at various events, thereby allowing team managers to organise the athletes. Mar 09 Two Road Races

While most of the focus was on Indoors there was still plenty activity on the roads. KCH had runners in Thomastown and Bohermeen. In Thomastown John Murphy and Rosie Alcorn ran the 10k. Their respective times were 50.23 and 51.11. Sean O hArgain did the 15k in 1.16.30. Up in County Meath we had six taking part in the Bohermeen half marathon with four clocking PB's for the event - Mike Cullen 1.21.51, David FitzGerald 1.27.00, Claire Dermody 1.27.28 and Stephen Walsh 1.49.16. Also taking part were Lisa Collins 1.33.58 and David Wilson 1.49.16.

Mar 09 Schools Cross Country

This year's Schools All-Ireland was held in Ballybrit, Galway. A small number of club members were involved and all produced good performances. Sinead Cormack 16th, Clodagh O'Callaghan 33rd and Ellen Cormack 68th were part of the Presentation team that placed second in Intermediate Girls. In Intermediate Boys Kyrell Mtinsi, St Kieran's was 15th. Top run of the day was by another St Kieran's, Ruairi McEvoy. Ruairi running in senior boys placed 4th. Well done all.

Mar 08/09 INDOOR – National & European

It was a busy weekend for indoor athletics. On the home front we had the National Masters on Saturday and the under 20 & under 23 on Sunday while all the time we were tuned to Appledoorn, Netherlands for the European Indoors.  Graham Bourne excelled once again in the M45 category with gold in the 60m hurdles (12.71), silver in Pole Vault (2.00) and bronze in triple jump (8.30). Padraig had a great performance to win silver in 3000m M35 (9.44.07). Noel Murphy topped of the day with gold in M65 400 (1.10.24). Sunday in Athlone we had four athletes [...]

KCH had three  fine representatives at this year's National Masters Indoors. Graham Bourne competed in three M45 category events and he medalled in all three - Gold in 60m hurdles (12.71), Silver in Pole Vault (2.00) and Bronze in Triple Jump (8.30). Noel Murphy continued his return to athletics with a fine win in M65 400m (1.10.24) and Padraig completed the day with another medal - Silver M35 3000m(9.44.07).

Mar 05 County Awards Night

KCH athletes were honoured by The County Kilkenny Athletics Board at a presentation ceremony in Langton's Hotel on Thursday 27th February. Among those to receive awards were four athletes and one relay team who had championship record performances during 2024. U16 Mattias Quaglia, Leinster 200m (22.63); U17 Clodagh O'Callaghan Leinster 800m (2.15.83); U17  Molly Daly Leinster 200m (24.57); U18 Pia Langton Leinster 800m (2.09.37) and M45 Graham Bourne  Leinster 3000m (12.23.06). The U15 relay team set a national indoor record of (1.45.51). Team members were Ellenn Daly, Cara Canavan, Aisling Phelan, Emily Long and Mollierose Keegan.  Star Awards were presented [...]

Mar 02 Four For the Road

While the juveniles were enjoying the indoor comforts of the NIA some were out "travelling" the roads. Declan Walshe and Denis Carrigan ran the Naas 10 mile n 1.12.48 and 1.15.57 respectively. Nearer home John Murphy (4th) and Rosie Alcorn took on the Dunna 5K and finished in 19.14 and 22.39 respectively.

What a day the club had at the Leinster Indoor Relays in the NIA today - Three teams win gold; Six win silver; One win bronze; and One a close 4th; And another group of teams performed well and with newcomers having gained experience and confidence they will be well motivated for future competition.  The gold medals were won by Boys U12 - Daniel Quinn, Daniel McIntyre, Aaron Tyrrell, Conor Lawerence Delaney, Cillian Maher and Charlie Norris.
