Shay McEvoy had a busy weekend at the US athletic indoor conference in Bermingham, Alabama. Competing in the heats of the mile he placed third in 4.10.52. In the subsequent final he was fourth in 4.08.40. Not yet finished he then ran the 3000 clocking 8.05.70 when finishing sixth and gathering more points for his college team, Tulsa Hurricanes.
KCH annual awards for 2022 were presented to the successful athletes at a function in the Pembroke Hotel this afternoon. Chairman, John Maye, opened the proceedings by welcoming all to the presentation and thanking the athletes, their families and coaches for their efforts and achievements during 2022. The citations were read by Sean Lynch while May Hutt assisted. In addition to the awards to the athletes a further presentation was made to Michael Manning in recognition of his contribution to the club during his time as club secretary. We had four athletes competing in the national senior indoors in the national indoor arena. Cliodhna Manning was in action both days. On Saturday she competed in heat and semifinal of the 400m, winning her heat in 56.29 and placing second in the semi in 55.26. In Sunday's final she placed fourth in a further improved time of 54.95. On Saturday Eoin Everard was fourth in the 3000 in 8.16.98. Cathal O'Reilly was also under the nine minutes (8.39.40). Our juveniles travelled in large numbers to Athlone for the county indoor championships. Bringing home over 150 medals - One hundred individual and twelve relay teams - insured that the Nicholas Flavin Shield for best juvenile club was retained by the club. Outstanding performer of the day Was Kyrell Mtinsi with four golds - 60m, 200, 800m and triple jump. Runners up for that accolade were Molly Daly - three golds- 60m, 60m hurdles and 200m; and Adam Slawinski -also three golds - 60m, 200m and long jump. JUVENILES--With the B All Irelands being held in Gowran it afforded an opportunity for experiencing competition without much travel. KCH availed of the opportunity and did well there. The juveniles had four teams competing - boys and girls u11 and u13. The under 11 girls (Kate Kelly, Ella O'Flaherty, Mealla Crowley, Ellen Ryan and Kate Byrne) were 7th with Kate in super form to win silver and also lead the county team to third place. There were some great runs by club members in the Leinster Schools cross country in Santry today. Kyrell Mtinsi, St Kieran's was in top form as he lead the race from start to finish and helped his team to first place in the minor race. Paul Millea in 9th place also scored. Robert Coogan, CBS, ran well to place 5th. In the junior races St Kieran's were second team and Clodagh O'Callaghan, Presentation, was 5th and the school team won silver. Raheny 5 Mile - A quality Men's team represented the club in this years AXA Raheny 5 Mile. Jamie Gahan finishing in 25.09 was second O-40 and with Ger Forde clocking 24.27 and Eoin Everard 24.34 the team finished second club. Well done men. IUAA - Cathal O'Reilly scored second place in the Colleges Indoor 1500. Running in the DCU colours he crossed the line in 3.57.
