While our big focus was on the European Club scene a few took part in some more local runs. In the Thomastown 10K there was a 5th place finish for Colm Smyth in 36.44. Paula Hynes did the course in 48.47. Mark O'Duffy ran the Dunna Dash 5K in Dunnamaggin in 19.17 And up in  Wicklow Leisha O'Connell covered the half marathon in 1.59.26.

Feb 25 European Club CC Championships

Today was an historic day for KCH with two teams from the club, Junior Ladies and Senior Men, representing Ireland at the European Club Cross Country Championships held this year in Albufeira, Portugal. They were there by virtue of their respective victories in the National CC Championships held in Gowran in November 2023. The ladies managed by Niamh Richardson finished 10th out of 14 teams competing - a fine achievement. Another successful day out for our young athletes at the Leinster Juvenile B Cross Country in Stradbally, Co Laois today.  A day to remember for our U11 boys who won first club and had all four team members scoring on the county team which placed third - two Leinster medals in the one day. There were some fine performances from our athletes at the weekend with a number of PBs achieved. In the national indoors in Abbotstown Both Billy Coogan, who won his semifinal, and also Myles Hewlett had PB's in their 3000m - Billy 8.34.12 and Myles 8.38.98. Molly Daly and Orla McPhillips tasted their first senior Indoor Championships. Molly, having won her heat of the 200 in 24.63, placed a good 4th in the final in 24.94 while Orla went in the 800m. Graham Bourne can turn up anywhere. Doing something different. Today it was the National 50Km road race organised and run by Donadea A C. Graham finished 11th overall (5th O/40) in a time of 3.18.52. What's next?

Feb 11 Juvenile Cross Country

Well done to all our juveniles at the All-Ireland B cross-country in a muddy Dundalk today. The U11s had a girls team and also a boys team.  The girls placed 10th in the inter club race. Team members were Ella O'Flaherty 36, Casey Cleere 45, Mealla Crowley 57 and Grace O'Shea 65. The boys with great team packing finished 4th. Tom Hardiman 16, Johnny O'Carroll 17, Eoin Hoyne 18 and Jake Delaney 82. Just three boys represented the club in the under 13 race. Feb 10 PB for Peter in Boston

Peter Lynch, wearing his Kilkenny City Harriers singlet, had a fine run in the 5000m at the Valentine Invitational in Boston tonight. Running in heat 3 and looking strong when finishing he crossed the finish line in 13.31.81. This achievement moves him to 5th place on the Irish all time 5000m indoor list. Congratu;ations.

Feb 07 A Few in Abottstown

A few of our juveniles were in Abbottstown tonight at the track and field games. All turned in good performances - Ellen Ryan, Hannah O'Brien and Julia Daly ran the 60m and 600m. Ellen's times were 9.27 and 2.03.98; Hannah 9.84 and 2.15.82 and Julia 9.47 and 1.59.18. Aoibhe Quinn, Molly Daly and Ellen Daly ran the 60m. Times were 8.31, 7.99 and 8.09 respectively. Kate Kelly did the 600 in 1.51.68 and Grace Delahunty had 1.07.02 for the 400.

Congratulations to all the athletes who took part in the Leinster Schools cross country in the Phoenix Park today. Six teams from the city schools came home with team medals. Two sets for Presentation - 1st Junior girls, 3rd Inter Girls; Loreto two sets - 2nd Minor Gilrs, 3rd Senior Girls; CBS - Senior Boys; St Kieran's - 3rd Junior Boys. These were secured with the fine running by the athletes from the various schools. Among the high achievers were the following - Amelia O'Brien, Katie Byrne, Sinead Cormack, Kyrell Mtinsi, Robert Coogan, Pia Langton, Ruair McEvoy, Billy Coogan. [...]

St Brigid's Day in Kilkenny is marked on the running calendar as the day to help fund the activities of Cois Nore. KCH lends its support in both administration and participation of this worthy cause. This year's 5K down the canal and around the Castle Park attracted close on 350 supporters. First home for theHarriers' ladies was Orla McPhillips (19.41) followed closely by Niamh Richardson (20.22).  Donnacha Maher (20.06)  was our first male across the finish line.
