With one eye on the Dublin City Marathon many athletes are checking their current state of preparedness by taking on competitive half marathons. Two such were held today  - a day that weather-wise resembled mid summer rather than an autumn day. A number headed to Waterford for the Greenway half marathon with some great individual results- Lisa Collins 1st O/40 (1.33.02) and Oonagh Guilfoyle 3rd O/40 (1.37.41). The ladies team won gold. The Cellbridge 5K on 22nd brought four from KCH with all four experiencing good runs - Paul Bolger and Mike Cullen both had PBs - 17.20 and 17.44 respectively; Padraig Ruane finished in 17.23 and Grainne Behan did well completing the run in 19.48. The Boston Scientific half marathon was held on 24th in Clonmel where another quartet were in action. Paudie McCarthy 1.21.36, Michael Grogan 1.37.11, Geraldine Grogan 1.48.39 and Jan Hazenberg 1.50.09. Club members were involved in three venues on Sunday 25th. Ger Forde was third runner for Ireland in the Antrim Coast half marathon finishing in 1.07.13. [...]

On Thursday evening Rory Lehane and Colm O'Shea ran the Thurles 5K. Their respective times were 18.24 and 21.67. On Saturday Mary Prendergast and Michelle Nugent took part in the Frank Duffy 10 Mile Their respective times were 71.45 and 76.10.

On Friday night United Striders held their 5k Stride on the New Ross Greennway meeting with the approval of the participants. KCH had six men completing the race -  4 Callum Barron 15.20, 15 Dean Rowe 16.26, 17 Padraig Ruane 16.45, 21 Paddy Walsh 16.51, 41 John Murphy 17.57, 99 Brian Keane 21.26. A good team effort resulting in the KCH team winning the Seamus Burke Memorial Trophy. Anne Marie Shortall did the Kinsale half marathon finishing in 1.48.46. 

While the athletics programme was hotting up in Paris the National U20, 23 and Masters were happening in Tullamore. Saturdays U20 and U23 events were run under very wet conditions - not conducive to fast running. Our athletes competed true to form with U20s  Alex Cullen winning silver in the 400 hurdles in 54.82. Blaithin Holden was 6th in the 400 hurdles (1.09.27) and Ruairi McEvoy was 9th in the 1500 (4.10.04). Cathal O'Reilly, our sole representative in the U23 won gold in the 1500 (4.03.22).
