Another blistering sun welcomed all to the Carlow IT track for the final day of the Leinster Juvenile track and field championships. And another good day for KCH athletes. Eight medals were won on the day - four gold, three silver and one bronze - and medals were won in all age groups from 14-19. The under 14 and 15 800m athletes had the difficulty of competing initially in heats in order to gain qualification to the finals. This weekend's Leinster T&F championships were held in the Carlow IT facility during two days of blistering heat. Sometinmes we complain of the wet or the cold but this extreme heat seriously tested our athletes particularly those who had heats, semi and finals etc. The weekend proved successful for the club with some seventeen medals been won and a further five athletes had fourth place finishes. There was a busy morning on the track at Scanlon Park today as 5K pacing trials organised by Kilkenny City Harriers and Kilkenny Triathlon Club. In all eight 5K trials (with more than one time being paced in many of the races) were held. There were also a 3K and a 1500m provided to suit the needs of a group of athletes. Among those was KCH athlete, Eoin Everard, who had a bash at a sub eight minutes for the 3K distance. Thanks to the pacers, James Ledingham, Shay McEvoy and Peter Lynch, they got him over the line in 7.57. [...]

Our u9s and 10s were in action at theco Championships in Scanlon Park this evening. And looking at the results it suggests the future of the club is safe. The under 9 girls - Julia Daly, Kate Kelly and Ella O'Flaherty - made it one, two and three in the 300m final. Then in the boys under 10 there was a gold, silver and bronze repeat with Jonathan Akhomonen, Darragh O'Callaghan and Charlie Kavanagh in the 60m sprint. Our U12s and 13s travelled to IT Carlow today for their Leinster Championships. And all competed well. We had twelve under 12s - six girls and six boys. Of the girls Ellen Daly was the star with two bronze medals. She had a busy day with heats, semi and final of the 60 and heats and final of the 600. Her final times were 8.83 and 1.49.60 in 60 and 600 respectively. Kara Canavan was 6th in long jump (3.81) and her time in the semi final of 60m was 9.18. We had four athletes (three senior & one Master) competing at the Leinsters in Carlow IT this weekend. Of the seniors Jack Manning was the busiest  competing in 100m and 400m. In the 100m he qualified out of the heats with 11.09 to finish fourth in the final in 10.92. In the 400m he had an excellent run to win gold in 49.10.   Rory McGabhann, getting back in form from injury, took the bronze with 1.80 clearance. Eamon O'Connor placed 13th in the 1500m in 4.29.76. It was county championship time for our under 12s and 13s. And they performed excellently. Our U12 boys  - Thomas Hayes, Shay Molloy and Patrick Wall - made it one, two and three in the Long Jump while the under 13 girls - Emma Hogan, Kate Maher and Martha Bergin - did a similar job on their 80m. As well as winning twentyone medals there were many other excellent performers.
