2021-12-13T15:18:40+00:00

The European Cross-country championships 2021, not held in 2020, were held in Abbotstown today. Competitors from 35 countries were welcomed by various speakers including Jack Chambers, minister for Sport. The home venue proved very popular with the Irish teams which had great support from the vast majority of an attendance in excess of 7000 spectators. The Irish athletes spurred on by the support gave 100+% and resulted in one of the best results from a European contest. This was especially true of our young men. The under 20 men won silver - a mere one place separating them from gold. [...]

2021-12-06T11:25:05+00:00

The Uneven All-Ireland CC came to Kilkenny thanks to host club Gowran and Kilkenny Athletics County Board. The Covid pandemic unfortunately played a part resulting in a number of our athletes not being able to be involved. The weather was cold but bright and made for good running conditions. All of our athletes performed welll. The day started with the U11 girls where we had two scoring on the county team. A fantastic run by Amelia O'Brien (94) saw her the second finisher for the team and Emma Kelly (138) the sixth scorer. Our U11 boys, the only age group [...]

A dreary wet morning cleared in time for the County Senior cross country championships hosted by Thomastown AC today. KCH men, despite short some athletes (Eoin Everard, Toss Hayes  etc) were out to retain the title. New member, Ger Forde, recently transferrred from Wexford, took the individual title and the silver went to Brian Maher. With James Ledingham taking fourth place the A team would be hard to beat. Nov 21 Even Age Juveniles in Nationals

2021-11-29T10:33:39+00:00

An unusually small contingent of our juveniles were in action today at the national cross country finals in Santry. First away was Sinead Cormack U12. She was brilliant. Coming across the line in 34th place she was first scorer on the county team. She was fifth scorer on the Leinster team which finishing in second place in the provincial competition won Sinead an All-Ireland silver medal. Daire O'Flaherty, eligible to run in U12 again next year, also had an excellent race. Finishing 41st he was fifth scorer on the county U12 team.  Covid denied us Clodagh O'Callaghan U14 and Eoghan [...]

Nov 20 Tulsa Hurricanes in Talahassee

2021-11-21T20:18:19+00:00

Tulsa Hurricanes backboned by four Irish athletes (including the KCH duo, Peter Lynch and Shay McEvoy) travelled to Tallahassee, Florida for today's national cross country finals. Ranked 10th the team were determined to go a bit better. The weather was hot and the course relatively flat resulting in a fast race. The Tulsa team members seemed to get boxed in the early stages. Peter was in 100th position at the 2K mark but with his usual persistance he worked his way kilometer by kilometer to place 42nd at the finish in the excellent time of 29.32 and second scorer on [...]
