Nov 20 Louie in Nat Final

Louie Raggett represented St Kierans in the Schools National Pentathlon today. Following his third place in Leinster in October he finished sixth in today's final. This was achieved by posting PBs in the hurdles 9.65 and 800m 2.23. His other results were LongJump 5.39, 200m 26.00 and Shot 9.18.

It was ideal running weather for today's Stook as young and old gathered in Dungarvan for this year's Stook. The 10 mile attracked the greater number with Clonmel AC winning the team event from KCH in second place. Claire Dermody (fourth lady overall) finishing in 1.10.48 was county Kilkenny champion and also first O/40. Cathy Millett was first O/55 in 1.14.13 and Angela Lalor was third O/55. Alan Mahon in 1.06.57 was first O/45. Paul Earley also had a first O/60 clocking 1.25.31.  Other finishers were Paul Phelan, Andy Hanrahan, Eddie Hawe, Sean O'hArgain, Andrew Smith, Martina McGrath and Hilda Comerford. [...]

Nov 12 Tulsa Progress to Nationals

The Mid-West Regional cross-country 10k men's championhsips were held in Iowa today. The Tulsa University team, backboned by four Irish, placed third enabling qualification for the National finals in Tallahassee, Florida on the 20th Nov. The team made its presence felt from the start and were comfortable through in third place. KCH duo Peter Lynch and Shay McEvoy were very much involved in securing the place in the final with Peter coming 13th and Shay finishing 21st. The other two Irish were Cathal Dalton, Mullingar and Michael Power, Waterford.

Nov 07 Among The Wicklow Hills

There was something in the air that Wednesday afternoon during mid-term. It was wet and windy but there was a healthy attitude in the air. One felt this was a serious session. Perhaps some of that resurfaced today among the Wicklow hills. Avondale was the venue for the uneven ages cross-country.   And our uneven age athletes were up for it. The under 11 girls got the show on the road and all ran well with Emma Kelly and Amelia O'Brien scoring on the 4th placed county team. (Emma 40, Amelia 48, Jasmine Timmons McEneaney 72, Lucy Maher 90, Alicia Slawinski 94). [...]

Nov 06 The Abbott Dash

The annual 5K Abbott Dash took place this evening in New York. Aoibhe Richardson competing in it for the first time made it her own. Crossing the finish line in 16.35 she took first place. the race saw Siofra Clerigh Butner finishing 8th in 17.02. Up the Gaels.

The US Colleges cross-country season is hotting up now. One college in the thick of it is Tulsa, Okloma - commonly known as the golden hurricanes. Today's 8Km race - The American Athletic Conference - held in Florida was dominated by Tulsa whose men took the title for the eight consecqutive time and the ladies had their third consecquetive time. The men's team had a strong Irish contingent with KCH duo Peter Lynch and Shay McEvoy and Waterford's Michael Power. The  Leinster Even Ages cross countrn y cut new ground this year as 1200myoung athletes converged on The Mountain View golf club today hosted by St Senan's AC. The greenkeepers hadn't been active for awhile so the under 12s had to knock a bit of grass as the went about their business. the weather behaved until the under 18 girls race when rain driven by wind put a dampner on things. Our 2020 "STREETS" delayed by Covid got the go-ahead for tonight and Go ahead it did. a good turnout by runners and spectators. KCH men were very much in evidence and very competitive also. Eoin Everard and Gerry Forde were in the lead group from the start. Michael Byrne, Rathfarnham, go t the run on Eoin to take first leaving Eoin a close second (14.18). Likewise Kieran Kelly, Raheny Shamrocks got the better of Forde(14.25) at the finish. James Ledingham was 11th and Eamon O'Connor 21st. Oct 17 Autumn Open Cross Country

Athletics Ireland Autumn Open was held in Abbotstown today - the last race over the course before the Europeans. Two KCH athletes were very prominent in the senior 8K. They were evergreen Eoin Everard who placed 6th in 23.41 and Ger Forde who placed 9th in 24.16. Equally showing good form was Cathal O'Reilly who placed 9th in the Junior 6K. His time was 19.58.

Louis Raggett continues to show his athletic ability. Competing for St Kieran's College in the Leinster Schools Multi Events at the National Indoor Arena today he won bronze in the penthatlon. His performances were as follows:- 200m 26.00, Long jump 5.27, Shot 9.54, 60m hurdles 10.43, 800m 2.26.34. Well done Louis.
