Jul 30 – Gold and Silver at The Pink Rock

The county 10k road championships, run in conjunction with the Pink Rock 10k, was held in Rosbercon today. KCH had Men's and Women's teams. The men took the gold medals. Scoring were Padraig Ruane 6, Eamon O'Connor 8, Trust Mtinsi 10 and Shea Roddy 19. For backup they had Mark O'Duffy, David Lawlor and John Murphy. The ladies won silver with Claire Dermody 3, Lisa Collins 6, Kate Sugrue 9 and Louise Coogan 10. Their backup runners were Eileen Morgan and Anne Marie Shortall. Well done all.

Well done to all our athletes competing in the National Seniors in Santry this weekend. The weather didn't make it easy for athletes with both wind and rain. It was a unwelcome outcome for Cliodhna Manning. Running in lane 8 in the 400m final she was in a commanding position approaching the final bend. It was a busy weekend for our U14-19 juveniles with the national finals in Tullamore. The weather was very much a spoil sport on Saturday with torrential rain. Over the two days our athletes won two gold, one silver, three bronze and there were five fourth place finishes and many personal bests. Results:- Under 14- Sinead Cormack 4/1500 (4.53.17), Ellen Daly 2/200 (27.26). Under 15- Kate Maher 3/100 (12.27), 3/200 (26.30), Martha Bergin 5th in 200m heat in 28.14. Jul 15/16 Noah’s Decathlon

Noah Gilmore achieved one of his target's for 2023 - to do the Decathlon. And he did it in style to claim gold in the Junior event with a points total of 5270. His achievements in the various events were as follows:- 100m (11.18), 110 hurdles (17.18), 400m (52.95), 1500m (4.55.81), Discus (25.05), Pole Vault (2.70), Javelin (37.58), Long jump (6.14), high jump (1.65) and shot (8.45).

A larger than usual KCH contingent took part in todays AAI Games. For Cathal O'Reilly it was one to remember. Competing in the 1500 he crossed the line in 3.48 with an 11 second PB to claim gold leaving Eoin Everard with silver in 3.49. Also in the race was Myles Hewlett who came 12th in 4.03. Jamie Gahan ran the 3000 to finish 6th in 8.57. Jack Manning and Aaron Barron went in the 400. Their respective finish times were 49.48and 51.68.Ross Daly completed his run in the 100m in 11.56.

Jul 15 Three in Scotland

Three of our juvenile athletes had a taste of international competition today as they competed against athletes from England, Scotland and Wales in the SIAB International. Molly Daly won bronze in the 300m hurdles with a time of 43.58. As a member of the 4x300 relay she collected a second medal, a silver. The other two didn't get medals but were excellent representatives. Pia Langton was 4th in the 800m (2.13.03) and Louis Raggett had a PB of 6.32 to come 6th in the long jump.

Jul 14 Shay in Finland

Shay McEvoy was in Espoo, Finland today for the European U23 Championships. He brought his long season to an end with a fine run in the 5000m. His time of 13.52.76 saw him finish in 10th place. Well done Shay. Time now to recharge the batteries and prepare for the next season.

Our girls' relay teams were in good shape going for the national relay finals in Tullamore today. First away were our U14 girls - Ellen Daly, Emily long, Kara Canavan, Emma Roche. A great run in the heat clocked them at 52.97 and looking good only to get disqualified in the final. The U14 boys  - Patrick Wall, Thomas Hayes, Killian Croke and Robert Coogan -were fourth in their heat in 54.90.  The U15 girls - Kate Maher, Martha Bergin, Ellen Daly and Emily Long - won their heat and placed second in the final. Jul 08 National Juvenile – Billy Coogan’s Record

There were ups and downs on Day 1 of this year's national juvenile track and field in Tullamore. The ups were for Pia Langton with gold in the 800m (2.13.41) U17 and a greater up for Billy Coogan in the 3000m steeplechase U19. A power-full performance by Billy not only brought him gold but he also set a new national record of 9.28.78 for the event. The "down" came from Kyrell Mtinsi who placed 3rd in the 800m U15  heat to qualify for the final but having acquired and ankle injury during the qualification was unable to take part in [...]

Ten KCH athletes contested this year's B Nationals - 2U12, 6U13 and 2U14. All had good performances and while no medals were won an amount of experience was gained which will stand to all in the years ahead. U12 - Marcus Lyons 9th in 60m, Evan Cody 11th in 60m;  U13 - Lola Long 18th in Long jump, Lucy Maher 21st in long jump, Lavena Fogarty 22nd in long jump, Lauren Daly 25th in long jump, Katie Byrne 5th in 600m.
