Aug 23 From Ballyhale to Sligo

Out in Ballyhale we had the South Kilkenny Run - with some doing 10K and others running the 5K. David Devine placed 7th in the 10 in 42.12 while Declan Bryan finished in 1.08.43. In the 5K Eoin Molloy was 5th in 21.09. Andrew O'Carroll 27.1, Andrew Smith 31.10 and Statia O'Carroll 35.15. Gary O'Dwyer was up north doing the Antrim Coast half marathon in 1.40.01. The Boston Scientific half marathon was in Clonmel where Ger Forde had individual 3rd in 1.06.22. Cormac Goulding finished in 1.46.05 while Jan Hazenberg clocked 2.00.58. Aug15/17 Abbott Festival and Streets of Thurles

The inaugural Abbott Festival of Running supporting Cois Nore and KCH took place on Saturday with many club members running and officiating in various capacities. In the 5K event Eoin Everard took the winning spot in 15.34. Juveniles Dylan Guilfoyle and Eric Murphy were 3rd and 4th respectively in 19.30 and 19.32. Other finishers were Wm Cuddihy, Andrew O'Carroll, Conor MacGabhann, Emer O'Shaughnessy and Statia O'Carroll. Aug 10-16 European Championships

Irish athletes had an outstanding championships at this years event in Bermingham - Apart from medal winners (Mark English, Kate O'Connor, Rashidat Adaleke, Andrew Coscoran) there were many top quality achievements. To name a few - Jack O'Leary, Sarah Healy, Sofie O'Sullivan and what about both 4x100 relay teams reaching the finals. Our own Cliodhna Manning ran in the 4x400 helping the team put in a good performance. Well done to all - athletes, coaches, managers and the huge supporting army.

Aug 7/8 National Masters

Just three of our members took on this year's National Masters which were held in the Morton Stadium. Graham Bourne turned in his now regular golden performance winning the O/50 100m hurdles, triple jump and 3000m steeplechase (11.49.40). Ashling Burns took the bronze in the O/40 javelin with a PB of 24.72. It was gold for James Ledingham in the 800m O/40 (2.03.79).

Aug 7/8 S E Greenway and other Roads

South East Greenway A KCH team pulled off a worthy achievement n this year's South East Greenway 5K. Team Members were Eoin Everard (14.31), who held off strong competition in a sprint finish, Eamon O'Connor (15.26), Padraig Ruane and Emma Ayres (18.04). Others who had PBs for the distance were Trevor Spillane(18.25), Ian Hayes (18.43),David Bird 19.01), Jacinta Mulroe (19.10) and Neil Gunning 21.37).  Knocknarea 8mile in Sligo- David FitzGerald 51.55 Athy half - Emma Ayres 1.31.48, Kate Sugrue 1.33.00. Youghal half - Andy Hanrahan 1.36.37.

Congratulations to our three athletes who qualified for this year's world junior championships which were held in Hayward Field, Eugene, Oregon, USA. Pia Langton qualified for the 800m and 1500m but competed in the 800m. There she placed 4th in heatno 4 in 2.07.06 to qualify for the semis. She finished 7th in the semi in 2.07.41 which was insufficient to proceed to the final. Kate Maher and Molly Daly were both selected for the 4x400m relay panel. Unfortunately Molly had to withdraw because of injury and Kate travelled as a sub on the team which exited the competition in [...]
