26/27 July – Seniors Secure Silver

Sometimes our seniors are more likely to appear in individual rather  than team events. So full marks to our men's 4x100m relay squad who not only won silver but made Tallaght run for their gold. Two other factors require mention. First is that the individualism mentioned earlier often means that athletes are reluctant to commit to relays as they generally wish to concentrate on their own event. July 21 William Nugent Scores Twice

Today was Day 4 of the national juvenile track and field championships incorporating The "B" championships and some juvenile relays held in Tullamore amid heat and heavy rain. William Nugent wont mind. Competing in Shot and 80m he won silver and bronze respectively. Other good performances came from Ella Wall (7th in high jump and 8th in long jump) and Grace Delahunty (8th in high jump and 9th in 80m). July 20 Peter and Eoin in Action

Peter Lynch and Eoin Everard saw some action today - Peter in Wexford, Eoin in Belgium. Peter made the short trip to Camross, Co Wexford for the Five Mile Stride race where he duly won the race in 25.05. Eoin went to Belgium where he finished sixth in the 5000m race in 14.00.12 - an excellent workout in preparation for next weekend's national seniors.

July 20 Shay McEvoy at The Europeans

Shay McEvoy put in an excellent performance at the European U20 championships in Boras, Sweeden. In the semi-final of the 3000m on Thursday he came with a storming finish to make fifth place in 8.36.20 and automatic qualification for the final. In Saturday's final he again put in a great run to finish 14th in 8.38.03. Well done.

Another hot day in Tullamore for Day 3 of the National Juvenile Champoionships. KCH had eight athletes involved today and all reached the finals of their respective events. Annie McEvoy was also in hot form. Having won the 3000 in the afternoon heat of yesterday she had the 1500 to contend with in today's heat. That she did and did it well to win the silver. Day 2 of the national juvenile championships were held in Tullamore today. Our under 15 sprinters did well with Jennifer Obah and Amelie Foley each placing 4th in their respective heats while Conor Byrne was 6th in his. Conor was 7th in the triple jump and Amelie did likewise in the long jump. Alex Cullen had a PB of 5.04 with 6th place in the long jump under 14 and cleared 1.45 to come 7th in the high jump. Jul 13 Conor Drops 10000

Conor MacGabhann today cut one item off his bucket list - The Parachute Jump. It had been cancelled on a number of occasions owing to the weather. At 1.00pm today the clouds opened and the jump was on. After some twenty minutes sightseening around the north of the county he jumped from 10,000 feet. the clear sky enabled all onlookers to see him as the parachute opened and he sailed through the sky and make a perfect landing. He has his certificate for all to see and very importantly his sponsors have made a generous donation to John Needs Pembro. Well [...]

How many miles to how many different places to find KCH athletes over the weekend. First stop was Tullamore for the national junior and under 23 championships. The McEvoys were up and running in the junior championships. Annie took silver in the 1500m (4.42.39) and Shay had a maasive performance to clinch the gold in the 3000m (8.24.74). In under 23 Jack Manning finished third in his 400m heat (49.90).  Aoibhe Richardson was in London as part of the Irish 10k team. She finished third on the team with a new PB of 33.41. Jun 30 KCH Exit League

A small and determined group represented the club at round 2 of the National League in the Morton Stadium today. They competed in ten events and achieved a high standard averaging over 7 points per event. Such a performance if equalled in both rounds with a more complete team would not only gain a place in the final but would guarantee league medals. Jack Manning had 18 points from weight for distance and 400m. Jun 30 Gold at Pink Rock

Todays 10K at the Pink Rock incorporated the county 10K championship. Our ladies team were very much to the fore and scored brilliantly. Jacinta Mulroe, 2nd lady overall and first Kilkenny; Cathy Millett, 3rd overall and 2nd Kilkenny -plus first over 50; and Claire Dermody 5th overall and 4th Kilkenny were comfortably first county team. Best for the men was Trust Mtinsi in 4th place. John Phelan ahd an excellent run to complete the course in 37.47 and win silver in the over 50 category. well done all.
