How many miles to how many different places to find KCH athletes over the weekend. First stop was Tullamore for the national junior and under 23 championships. The McEvoys were up and running in the junior championships. Annie took silver in the 1500m (4.42.39) and Shay had a maasive performance to clinch the gold in the 3000m (8.24.74). In under 23 Jack Manning finished third in his 400m heat (49.90).
Aoibhe Richardson was in London as part of the Irish 10k team. She finished third on the team with a new PB of 33.41. Callan Byrne was in Tortosa, Spain, representing Carlow IT at the CSIT World Games. Following a good run in the 100m he later qulaified for the 200m final where he turned in a great performance to win bronze. Also representing Carlow IT was Cliodhna Manning. This was at the world student Games in Naples, Italy where she competes in the 400m. Finsihing 3rd in her heat she now awaits the final.
Former KCH athlete Michael Bowler was part of the Irish contingent taking part in the combined events in Madeira, Portugal. Not only did he help the national team to second place he collected an individual decathlon silver with a points total of 7379.
Back in Tullamore there were a number of fine performances from our juvenile athletes. Top of the list was Kevin Burns with 2nd place in the under 19 steeplechase. Under 18 athlete Cathal Kearney was 11th in the 800m final. In the juvenile hurdles Evan Cullen was 9th under 13. Under 14 athletes Blaithin Holden and Alex Cullen placed 7th in their respective hurdles races.
