A quiet weekend on the competition front. One athlete in Athlone and one in New York. In Athlone Eamon O'Connor competed in the Leinster Senior Indoor. 4.16.64 got him bronze in the1500 and 9.26.08 placed him 5th in the 3000. Aoibhe Richardson placed 9th in the Atlanda Women's 5K in 16.33.
The club had many great performances at the national Indoor championships in Athlone this weekend. U12 Jasmine Timmons McEneaney was in top form. Winning her 60m heat with a PB of 8.83 she struck gold in the final with another PB of 8.65. In the Under 13s we had Ellen Daly. On Saturday she finished the 60m in 6th place (PB 8.57) and on Sunday she made the 60m hurdles her own. With a PB of 9.99 she won the gold. We had two athletes taking part in the Under 15 events. The inaugural Cois Nore 5k fun run was held over the Parkrun course in the Castle Park this morning. KCH supported this event which is expected to become an annual fundraiser for the cancer suupport organisation, Cois Nore. In future years the run will be held on St Brigid's day - the first Monday in February. KCH finishers today included Ella Richardson (2nd overall), Noel Sugrue, Sean O'Hargain, Andrew Smith, Paul Earley, Anne Marie Brennan.
The annual 5K streets of Portlaoise took place today. Cathal O'Reilly covered the course in 15.33 to place 15th overall and be the first junior home. Other Harriers in the run were Eamon O'Connor 16.21; Padraig Ruane 16.38; Paul Fallon 21.41; Conor MacGabhann 23.47 and Bridget Rochford 27.43 (2nd o/55).
Cathal O'Reilly and Tom Lodge went in the 1500m national junior indoors today. Cathal came away with bronze in 4.04.26. Tom placed 13th in 4.20.48.
The club juveniles were busy today. Two athletes involved in Leinster Indoor High Jump - Alex Cullen won gold under 17 with 1.70. Mateusz Balcer with a similar height won silver under 19. And then the relays. Our under 12s, taking part in their first Leinster Indoor relay competition were in great form. The girls A team won gold in 2.05.38 and the B team were 3rd in their heat in 2.17.37. The boys were out in force with three teams. Two of our third level students had excellent runs in the annual cross country championships held in Santry today. Ella Richardson competed for UL and finishinf 14th was first finisher on the college team which finished 4th. Cathal O'Reilly ran with the DCU team and finishing 18th was third scorer for the team which finished in first place. Well done Harriers.
