It was a relative busy weekend  for our two men in Tulsa University. Both Shay McEvoy and Peter Lynch were in action on both days at the Washburn Indoor track and field in Topeka, Kansas. On Friday evening the ran the Distance Medley Relay. Shay ran the first leg (1200m) and Peter ran the anchor leg(1600m). The Tulsa team took first place in 9.52.30. They then ran the 3000m on Saturday afternoon. With college team-mates Michael Power and Scott Beatie acting as pacemakers a fast pace was set. And fast it was. This years County Intermediate was held in a well prepared venue in Graiguenamanagh, hosted by Barrow Harriers.  Our men gave a determined performance in a very competitive field with the team result in doubt until the numbers were crunched. An outstanding performance by Padraig Ruane saw him take individual gold and lead the team to first place. The other team members were 5 Diarmuid Cullen, 11 Graham Bourne, 16 Paddy Walsh and 17 John Phelan.  The club had a disappointing turnout for the juvenile races. Those who did travel were excellent. Our two athletes performed well in the Celtic Internationals held this year at The Billy Neil Country Park, Dundonald, Belfast. Eoin Everard placed 11th in the Senior race where the Irish team was dominant. A good run  by Cathal O'Reilly saw him finish 23rd  in the under 20 race which included a number of events in addition to the Celtic. 

Congratulations to Louie Raggett on an excellent performance in the national combined events finals. With two PBs included in his acheivements he gathered 2845 points to win silver in the under 16 event. He won the long jump, was seventh in the hurdles, sixth in shot, third in 800 witha PB of 2.23.07 and first in the high jump with a PB of 1.69.   

Our Under 12 athletes represented the club in fine style at the Leinster cross-country relays in Dunboyne today. The girls were first away in the 4x250 race. With two teams entered they meant business and didn't disappoint. Both teams ran well with one collecting the third place medals. The boys were next and again both teams gave an excellent account of themselves with one coming home with the silver medals. The mile distance is infrequently run in modern times but running a sub 4 for the distance is still an attractive challenge for the middle distance runner. Shay McEvoy, representing Tulsa University, competed in the mile event at the Fayetteville Invitational in Arkansas tonight. With a fine run he finished  second overall in the excellent time of 4.02.79.  With this his first run of 2022 suggests the Sub 4 will be his before long. Congrats and best wishes.

2021 was an exceptional year for many and for one in particular, Cathal O'Reilly. With the early part of the year lost to Covid Cathal made amends with some brilliant performances on the track and in cross country culminating with selection for the Irish U20 team competing in the Europeans in Abbotstown in December. His achievements have now been recognised with the December KCLR & Daid Buggy Motors Kilkenny Sport Star Award. 

2022 competition commenced in Thomastown tonightwith the staging of the county Junior and county Masters O/35. Harsh weather may have influenced a low turnout for the club. Just two stawlarts - Paul Moran and Graham Bourne -  both ran well to finish 6th and 9th respectively in the Over 35s.
