Apr 27 Marathons Everywhere

It must be marathon season and our distance people are partaking. Apart from Peter Lynch's big performance in Dusseldorf others were also out covering the distance in respective good personal performances. Among those involved were the following:- Connemara - Kate Sugrue 3.42.33, Cosmo Bernal 6.33.00 in his first marathon. Longford - Andy Hanrahan 3.25.47.  London - Denis Vasiljevs 2.56.35. Manchester - Trevor Spillane 3.35.49.

Apr 27 National Road Relays

Our four man team travelled to Raheny for the national road relays today. With 28 teams competing it was a tough competition. The KCH team did well to finish 8th. Ruairi McEvoy ran the first leg in 9.51. Jamie Gahan did his bit in 4.39. Cathal O'Reilly followed on the three lap leg in 14.20 and Will Fox had 10.10 in the final leg.

Apr 24-27 BILLY – SHAY – PETER

What a couple of days for our "distance" people. Distance in events and distance from home. The distance didn't interfere with performance. Billy Coogan had a PB in the 3000m steeplechase. Running for Iona college he finished 17th in 8.54.37 at the Penn Relays event in Philadelphia. Shay McEvoy, Tulsa continued his good season with a PB of 13.40.30 when finishing 11th in the 5000m at the Payton Jordan Invitational in California. Apr 21 Boston and Clontarf

Boston - Three of our ladies travelled to Boston for the marathon with the following results:- Claire Dermody 3.17.09; Lisa Collins 3.24.57 and Caoimhe Foley 4.16.41. Clontarf - It was Leinster Championship day at the 10 mile on the road in Raheny. Rory Lehane (1.04.35), Declan Walshe (1.07.15) and Pat Purcell (1.08.59) won club  bronze in the O/50 team event and then with Conor D'Arcy (1.12.16) they were second county. Well done.

Apr 21 St Senan’s Open

The weather behaved for the participants in the annual St Senan's Open track and field leading to an enjoyable day of athletics. Among the KCH contingent there were a number of excellent results. Ranking high on the list was Conor Knox with first place in U14 shot, U15 long jump, 2nd U14 100m and also gold with the relay team. Results: U8 - Charlie Walsh 2/200. Once again the ever popular Streets of Kilkenny was a resounding success. Proof of it's popularity showed itself with places being sold out months in advance and given the enjoyment felt tonight it augers well for the years ahead. Apr 16 Maebh Qualifies for Europe

It was a fine run by Maebh Richardson (Portland College) today. Running in the Bryan Clay Invitational in California she acquired the European qualification for the 10000m when finishing 11th in 33.29.43. Congratulations.

Apr 11/12 National Award for Alex (+IUAA track)

Alex Cullen was honoured by Athletics Ireland at a function in Mullingar on Saturday. His track achievements during 2004 won him Kilkenny Juvenile Athlete of the year. The Award was presented to Ian, his father, as unfortunately Alex couldn't attend because he was doing his leaving cert orals. In the IUAA championships at the weekend Blaithin Holden, TCD, finsihed 8th in 100m hurdles and won bronze with the 4x400 relay. Callum Barron, UCD, finished 8th in 5000m.

Apr 13 The Distance People

The marathon season is in full swing - Over in Louven, Belgium, Ger Forde had a good run in the European Marathon championships to finish 27th in 2.21.23. David FitzGerald had a PB of 3.14.00. Claire Dermody was in Rotterdam for her marathon which she completed in 3.05.00. Also in Rotterdam were Aidan and Mags Clancy both of whom had PBs - Aidan 3.21.03 and Mags 3.50.36. James Murphy and Tony Lauhoff did the Waterford half. Their respective times were 1.4.00 and 1.40.00. Jacinta Mulroe did the 10K in 42.45.  Well done everyone.

Apr 13 McDonalds Open T&F

A small contingent travelled to the RSC Waterford today to take part in McDonald's Open track and field, organised by Ferrybank AC.  Daniel Greene won the 700m under 14. Marcus Lyons was 2nd in 80m and Cian O'Sullivan was 8th.  In under 10's Jonah Cleere was 3rd in 300m and won his heat of the 80m. Also competing under 10 were Lauren Millea, Mia Dowling and Holly Quinn.  The under 12's who saw action were Danny Quinn, Issac burns and Joey Fahy.
