This weekend’s Leinster T&F championships were held in the Carlow IT facility during two days of blistering heat. Sometinmes we complain of the wet or the cold but this extreme heat seriously tested our athletes particularly those who had heats, semi and finals etc. The weekend proved successful for the club with some seventeen medals been won and a further five athletes had fourth place finishes. All ages 14-19 contributed to the medal haul. Pride of place goes to U14 athlete Molly Daly who scored double gold with wins in 80m and 200m. The U16 boys were very much a part of the good results with three of the boys each scoring twice – Adam Slawinski won the 200m and placed third in long jump; Alex Cullen won the 100m hurdles and was second in the long jump and Liam Thompson won double silver – 100m and 200m.   Congratulations to all our participating athletes. Taking part in competition helps to improve performance and even if finishing down the field but getting a PB you are a winner. Indeed in these conditions coming close to a PB is in reality an improvement.
