Another blistering sun welcomed all to the Carlow IT track for the final day of the Leinster Juvenile track and field championships. And another good day for KCH athletes. Eight medals were won on the day – four gold, three silver and one bronze – and medals were won in all age groups from 14-19. The under 14 and 15 800m athletes had the difficulty of competing initially in heats in order to gain qualification to the finals. Well done then to Clodagh O’Callaghan on third place in the U14 final and a special well done to Pia Langton. Placing 2nd in her heat on Saturday morning she went one better in the afternoon final to take the gold. Tara McGuire won gold in the 400m hurdles under 18. Special mention also to Cathal O’Reilly. Finishing 2nd in last weekend’s 1500m he had the 3000m steeplechase today – twelve and a half laps plus hurdles in that heat – and gold at the finsih. Abbie O’Brien completed the golden streak with a win in the under 17 triple jump. Well done.

Under 17: Amelie Foley 5/200m heats, Conor Byrne 4/200, Abbie O’Brien 1/triple jump; Orla Kenny 2/triple jump.
Under 18: Tom Dooley 4/200, Tara McGuire 1/400m hurdles, Mateusz Balcer 2/high jump.
Under 19: Cathal O’Reilly 1/3000m steeplechase, Dylan Deegan 5/200.
