Our U12s and 13s travelled to IT Carlow today for their Leinster Championships. And all competed well. We had twelve under 12s – six girls and six boys. Of the girls Ellen Daly was the star with two bronze medals. She had a busy day with heats, semi and final of the 60 and heats and final of the 600. Her final times were 8.83 and 1.49.60 in 60 and 600 respectively. Kara Canavan was 6th in long jump (3.81) and her time in the semi final of 60m was 9.18. Emily Long jumped 3.28 in long jump and her 60m time was 9.42. Lucy Hogan competed in high jump and cleared 1.05. Ellen Cormack had 3.31 for long jump and 2.05.28 in 600. Sister Sinead had 3.32 in the jump and 2.00.66 in the 600. 

The boys were equally impressive. Mikey Phelan was flying in the 60m. Finished 2nd in his heat, won his semi-final and then took the silver medal in the final. His PB time is now 8.71. Thomas Hayes also qualified for the 60m final where he placed 7th in 9.06. Great long jumping where he jumped 4.16 brought him the silver medal. Patrick Wall exited the 60m in the semi-final with a time of 9.31. He also competedwell in the long jump to clear 3.77 and end in that unenvieable 4th place. John Bradley competed in 60m sprint (9.89) and long jump (3.30) while Ryan Farrell confined himself to the 600 (2.08.91). Shay Molloy’s time for the 60m was 9.56 and he also competed in high jump with an excellent 5th place and a 1.15 clearance.

  We had six U13s in action. Tiernan O’Brien competed in 80m. He was in good shape and easily qualified through heat and semi-final to place fifth in the final in 11.25. Sadhbh Connolly cleared 3.14 in the long jump. Charlie Lyons had 3’95 in the long jump and exited the 80m at the semi-final stage (11.72). Joshua Malone had a similar championship with 11.47 in the 80m semi and 3.70 in the long jump. Kate Maher clocked 11.66 in her 80m heat and after a great battle in the 600m she placed 4th in 1.49.29. Martha Bergin also had a busy day . She went through the 80m heat in 11.50, then the semi in 11.44 to finish 6th in the final in 11.36. An excellent run in the 600 saw her finish 6th in 1.50.59. Well done all round.

We had five athletes competing in the 3000m. Ruairi McEvoy collected the bronze in the U16 race with a fine time of 10.31.16. U17 Isabella Bourke and Alexia Molionera had 6th and 11th respectively with 11.18.89 and 11.59.10. Under 18 Eleanor Godden was 7th in 11.38.71. Cathal O’Reilly impressed with a time of 8.54.84 and Leinster Silver. Good running.
