All our athletes participating in the Leinster Combined events championships in Carlow today came home with a either a medal and/or an enjoyable and successful day out. This competition provides less pressure than the individual single event. In addition to the variety of the events there is always the possibility of a high score in the final distance event leading to a chance to move up the rankings. It was good to see the high turnout from our juvenile athletes. All competing today would have been taking part in the Leinster relays yesterday. So full marks to all involved especially the parents and coaches.
There were many outstanding performances – Under 15 athlete Mia Brennan with 2678 points struck gold. So too did Jacob Briers in the under 13 with 1303 points. Cathal Comerford was 4th with 1159 and Eoin Hoyne was 6th with 1094. Conor Knox with 2041 won under 14 silver. Fiach Crowley had silver with 1934 under 15. Also in under 15 was Kelly Charters who took bronze with 2245 points. Daniel McIntyre with 965 points won silver and had a number of his age group also taking part – 8th Conor L Delaney, 12th Daniel Quinn, 13th Cillian Maher, 18th Isaac Burns, 20th James Healy, 27th Conn Sheahan.
The under 11s were also out in good numbers. Jane Byrne with 729 points won bronze. Isabelle Hoyne was 19th and Cara Burke 22nd. the under 11 boys had Eoin McGee 10th, Daire O’Shea 16th, Barra Sheahan 21st and Shea Sheahan 22nd.
Graham Bourne competed in Masters and won silver with 1886 points.
