Two stalwards, David Devine and Denis Carrigan, carrierd the club colours at the national 50K championships in Donadea today. David came home in 4.44.02 while Denis clocked 4.56. 35. well done men.
Another great weekend for our two scholars attending Tulsa University. Athletes from the college were participating in the Wisconsin Windy City Invitational in Chicago. Peter Lynch went in the 5000 on Friday night and with steady and swift 25 laps of the course he placed second with a massive PB of 13.47.33. Then on Saturday it was the turn of Shay McEvoy. Shay was also in flying form in the 3000. Taking first place he clocked 7.56.32 becoming the second Harrier to come under 8 minutes for the distance. There was sadness today when it was reported that Vera Larkin had passed away. Vera who was 96 years of age had a long association with KCH, initially when her daughter Una was a juvenile member and subsequently when her daughter, May, for many years coach and clob officer, her grandchildren Jamie and Nicola and her great grandchild Aaron. May she rest in peace.
With Covid restrictions on the wane participation is increasing. Athlone saw huge numbers checking in for Day 1 of the Leinster indoors. KCH helped to swell the numbers with over sixty athletes from the club taking part. Our under 12 age group had fourteen competing and all doing well on their first taste of indoor athletics. Aidan Malone, Amelia O'Brien, Jasmine Timmons McEneaney, Alicja Slawinski and Molly Rose Keegan all got through to the semi-finals. Paul Phelan made the trip to Athlone today for the National Masters Indoor track and field. And the trip was worthwhile. Going in the 1500m he placed 5th in 4.45.33 and then won bronze in the 400 in 1.00.40. well done Paul.
