Dundalk was the venue for this year’s even age juvenile, junior and novice cross country championships. All looked well at the start but as the mild rain turned to torrents and the grass disappeared everything and everyone turned brown with mud – a virtual mud bath! no just mud field. that beinf said it was the same for all but in fairness it was the later races that were “worst” affected.
KCH athletes were prominent winning 14 county medals. Under 12 girls Amelia O’Brien 15, Emma Kelly 23 and Hannah Ryan 40 won bronze medal with the county team and togeter with Mollierose Keegan 55 abd Lucy Maher 91 they were 5th club. The U12 boyswere 10th with Daire O’Flaherty 11 winning gold with the county team. Other team members were Fiach Crowley 58, Ruadhan McGuinness 66 and Emmet Murphy 80.
The U14 girls had Sinead Cormack 12 winning silver with the county team. Sister Ellen was 71st. For the boys Kyrell Mtinsi had a fantastic run and won individual silver to go with his county gold. Robert Coogan in 13th also won gold with the county team.
The U16 girls placed 4th which qualifies them for the nationals in Donegal. First home forthe club team was Christina Captain Martin in 8th place to win gold with county team as did Hazel coogan in 19th. Other team members were Eimear Cormack 38 and Evelyn McEvoy 59.
Alexia Albertin Molinera was 19th in girls U18. The under 18 boys collected a bag of medals. Billy Coogan won the U18 race and placed 2nd in the Junior (run in conjunction with the U18 race). Paddy Kelly 23 and Ruairi McEvoy 28 along with Billy scored on the county winning teams in U18 and junior and with Matthew McCarthy were second club in both races.
Sole Novice runner was Padraig Ruane who placed 59th.
Before the grass changed colour u10 athletes Eoin Hoyne, Ellen Ryan, Mealla Crowley, Kate Kelly, Julia Daly and Ella O’Flaherty went in the non-championship event with the latter three bring home medals.
