The 2024 senior national track and field championships attracted most of the top athletes resulting in top quality competition as athletes hoped to improve their chances of Olympic qualification/selection. Cliodhna Manning was in this category and finishing fourth in the 400m final in 53.69 leaves doubts for the 4x400m relay. In the heats on Saturday she placed second in 54.92.

Cathal O’Reilly had a good competition. Winning heat 2 of the 1500m on Saturday he gave a good performance in the final on Sunday where he finished 7th in 3.45.74.

Alex Cullen tested himself in the 400 hurdles. A good run in the heats, 3rd in 54.69, qualified him for the final where he finished 7th in 56.85.

Molly Daly was also in fine form and winning heat 2 of the 200m (24.57) she improved her time in the final to finish 4th in 24.52.

The star for KCH has to be Billy Coogan who used his strength and fitness to good advantage to win the gold in the 3000m steeplechase. Leading from the start he showed great confidence and secured a new PB of 9.11.69.

Grace Richardson competed in the 5000m and placed 10th in 16.40.16. Well done.

Alex, Molly and Billy while still juveniles will have  gained great experience from participation at this level.

Well done and congratulations all.
