Well done KCH men in today’s National League final. Round one was tough, Round two was tough and today’s final in Tullamore was also tough. National finals are always tough, especially when the aim is to finish in the top three, thereby having each team member come home with an All-Ireland medal. This was especially true of todays event when a mere eight club members answered the call (some clubs had upwards of twenty members on their teams) and one of those a very recent joiner. With two guests, Jordan Knight and Shane Power, both St Joseph’s, the team competed in the required 17 events and secured sufficient points to claim third spot behind Tir Chonaill AC (first) and Ennis AC (second). Jack Manning as team manager had a heavy assignment – 100m, 200m, Shot plus 4×100 and 4×400 relays – contrubuting 22 individual points. Jordan Knight was also a heavy hitter – 110 hurdles, 400 hurdles, triple jump and 4×400 relay. His individual points contribution was 20. Alex Cullen did long and high jumps and his dad Ian stepped in to garner points in the 1500. And let’s not forget the club chairman, John Maye, who threw the 56lbs.
