Day 2 of theLeinster Indoors in Athlone was medalwise a little more successful than Day 1 bringing the medal count so far to eleven – 3 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze. In addition there were six 4th place finishes with the result that we will have considerable representation in the nationals. While overall results were satisfactory there was a disappointment for one of our under 12 athletes. Kate Maher took a fall in the 60m on Saturday but recovered to finish the race. Then on Sunday following a really great performance in the 600m she was disqualified on a technical detail. A tough introduction to indoor competition but Kate will have other days. Mathias Quaglia added a silver in the Shot to yesterday’s bronze and also came 5th in the Long Jump. Paul Millea was busy competing in 60m hurdles and 600m finishing 4th and 6th respectively. Sister Ellen was 7th in the 60m hurdles. Robert Lacey had a good run in the 600m coming home in 5th.

In the under 13s Molly Daly reversed Saturdays outcome where  Ruth Crowley won the gold in the 60m. Today was Molly’s day to shine romping to victory in the 600m. Ruth placed 4th. Ruth was also competing in the 60m hurdles where she won silver. Cormac Holden came close with a 4th place finish in the 60m hurdles.

Patrick Lacey and Louis Raggett were in action again the under 14 championships. Louis had the better of Patrick in the long jump – Louis won the gold and Patrick won silver. Louis also competed in the 60m hurdles where he finished 8th.

Blaithin holden had a busy day competing in 60m hurdles, High Jump and Shot – achieving 5th, 11th and 16th respectively. Alex Cullen won silver in the 60m hurdles and placed 5th in the High Jump.

Conor Byrne and Noah Gilmore were among the under 16 competitiors. Conor made 6th in the 200m while Noah was 5th in both 200m and Long Jump.

Well done to all our athletes who competed this weekend. Detailed results on Facebook Page and on Athletics Leinster. Best wishes for all on Days 3 and 4 – 22nd and 23rd February.
