Day 1 of theLeinster Indoors at AIT was a busy day with numerous heats in some events. Getting into a sprint final was a major achievement. Top marks then to Molly Daly to win silver in the girls under 12 final. Laura Leahy u12, Grace Delahunty and Hannah Quinn u13, were among those who made it to the semifinals of their respective 60m. Under 15 girls, Orla Kenny and Amelie Foley, and under 16 girls Jennifer Obah and Tara McGuire all qualified for the finals of their sprints. While medals were scarce on the track it was a different story in the field events when four medals were won. Mateusz Balcer was in might form. Clearing 1.75m he took first place in the under 16 high jump – another PB. Alex Cullen also had a PB in the under 14 high jump. He won bronze with 1.40m. Another athlete who shone was Oisin Henderson who cleared 1.27m to win silver in the under 12 High Jump and Oisin also came very close to a medal in the 60m. Clocking 8.77 he was fourth. The fifth medal of the day was won by Louis Raggett – a bronze in the under 13 Long Jump. Well done.
