It was a good day all round for the club at the county indoor track and field at Athlone IT with the juveniles winning the Fr Nicholas Flavin Shield and the adults winning the Senior and Masters Shield. There was a good turnout of athletes and many competed in a number of events. The juveniles were very much to the fore. Under 12 athlete Matias Quaglia made a fine return to athletics with Gold in 60m, Long Jump and Shot. Under 17 athlete Jennifer Obah was equally impressive with gold in 60m, 200m and the hurdles. There were clean sweeps for medals in 600m under 13 – 1 Ronan Dwan, 2 Cormac Holden 3 Luke Browne; Long jump under 14 – 1 Ella Wall, 2 Roisin Burns, 3 Grace Delahunty; Under 15 Long Jump – 1 Alex Cullen, 2 Adam Slawinski, 3 Sean Young. But it was in the relays that KCH were particularly strong. The boys under 12 were 1st and 3rd, boys under 13 1st; girls under 12, 13 and 15 were 1st and 3rd and girls under 17 were 1st.
For the Seniors Rory McGabhann was victorious in both 60m and high jump. His father Conor made the podium on three occasions – Masters 2nd long jump, 3rd 60m and 200m. Kate Millea and Joya Burns were very much involved. Kate won five medals including gold in senior 1500 and gold in masters 200. Joya also won five medals including a brave bronze in “weight for distance”. Well done everyone. Full results on Kilkenny Athletic county board.
