The sun shone in Gowran today for Day 1 of the Leinster CC. Following yesterday’s rain the underfoot conditions were “soft” in places. Our athletes gave us plenty to cheer about – none better than our under 10s (indeed some of them are still U9). Emma Kelly took the silver in the girls race while Darragh O’Callaghan took the gold in the boys race. Among the other good performers were Peter Quinn, Dara Foley and Darragh Browne. Then it was on to the relays where the U12 girls (A team) gave an outstanding performance to take second place. Patrick Lacey capped off a great run by the under 14 boys to win bronze. The under 12 boys and under 14 girls were both 4th place finishers. Ruth Crowley with the other U13s showed well in the U14 race.
Following the relays it was time for the adults. Our main interest was in the intermediate 4K race. The decision to run Cathy Millett at intermediate level rather than masters proved the right decision. Cathy was competitive from gun to chute and claimed 16th place. With Donna Dunne running to form she finished 13th. Sheila O’Callaghan and Kate Millea, “fresh” from last week’s county indoors, were also in excellent forma nd finished 26th and 28th respectively. The result- third placed club team and Leinster medals for all team members. Donna for good measure also got silver having scored on the second placed county team. Great work all round.
