This weekend was a joy for all in KCH or indeed for anyone associated with the club or having an interest in athletics.
It started with the U20’s national indoors with Molly Daly (400m) and Pia Langton (1500m). Both won gold in their respective events, set new championship records and in the process qualified for the World juniors. That was on Saturday.
Then on Sunday it was the turn of the National Masters Indoors. Double gold for O/65 Noel Murphy (400m & 800m); Gold for O/45 Jenny McIntyre (WFD) and Gold for O/50Niamh Spratt O’Shea (Shot).
Also on Sunday in New York an incredible run by Peter Lynch saw him run the fastest ever half marathon by an Irish athlete to finish 5th in 59.52. Unfortunately because the start and finish of the race were further apart than more than half the race distance the result will not be recognised as an official time. Do we really care? No because he did it and even took the lead on a couple of occasions to draw cheers from the onlookers.
