Wednesday night was a night of celebration in honour of Peter Lynch’s outstanding performance in The London City Marathon where he finished in 9th place- set a new Irish Record of 2.06.8 – was the first European across the finish line.
The event co-hosted by KCH and Kilkenny County Council was held in The Set Theatre, Langton’s and was chaired by Nicholas Dunphy, chairperson, KCH. Mary Hilda Kavanagh, Cathaoirleach, Kilkenny Co Council, delivered a comprehensive account of Peter’s journey while congratulating him on this massive achievement. On behalf of the Co Council she presented Peter with a framed acknowledgement of his achievement. The gathering was also addressed by Brid Golden, President, Athletics Ireland.
Following the speeches there was a Q&A session with Nicholas asking the questions. The session was then opened to the floor and Peter answered all the questions conveying many nuggets of information about his training regime.
During the night there was a presentation from the club to Molly Daly in recognition of her performance with the Ireland relay squad in Botswana.
The evening concluded with “eats” supplied by Langton’s and many congratulations and photographs.
