A wet and windy evening greeted our young athletes , U8, u9 and U10, as they gathered at Scanlon Park for this their first taste of track and field competition. And they measured up very well bringing home 32 individual medals – 10 gold, 10 silver and 12 bronze. Under 8s Ted Duff and Lucy Maher were top performers each winning two golds – Ted in 60m and 80m while Luch ‘s events were 60m and 200m. The rain had cleared and cold set in as we waited for the relays. But with a lot of success (U8 boys 1st, 2nd and 3rd in 4x50s; U8 girls 2nd; U9 girls 4th; U10 boys 1st, 2nd and 3rd; U10 girls 1st and 3rd) everyone was happy. Much thanks to all the help from parents on the night and of course the ongoing work of the dedicated coaches.
The evening concluded with the 5000m where our senior ladies had a clean sweep – 1st Mary Prendergast, 2nd Lisa Brennan, 3rd Sheila O’Callaghan. Anita Byrne and Kate Millea were 1st and 2nd respectively in the O35 category. For the men Paul Moran and Andrew Smyth were 2nd and 3rd respectively in the O35s. Also takingpart were Eamon O’Connor, Pat Purcell, David Devine and Tony Lauhoff.
