Day 2 of the County CC Championships took place in Castlecomer today. It was a good day. The weather was good. The turnout in most ages was good. The running was good and the results were good. Six sets of medals – three gold, one silver, two bronze – and twenty-two of our juveniles qualify on county teams for the Leinster Uneven ages cross-country on 6th November. 

Under 7 – Johnny Kelly finishing 6th was our first medal winner. Then followed a host of under 9’s – 2 Kate Kelly, 4 Ella O’Flaherty, 7 Hannah O’Brien, 12 Malla Crowley, 17 Issabelle Quaglia, 19 Aisling Donoghue, 25 Niamh Maher, 33 Caoimhe Malone, 43 Teagin Mtinsi. For the boys we had 9 Theo Crowley, 12 Donnacha Maher and 24 Killian McDonald.

Then it was down to the more serious stuff – the championships proper. And our under 11’s didn’t disappoint. They were surprisingly good. Good numbers and good results with the girls having teams in 1st and 7th places and the boys also with teams in 1st and 4th places. Girls placings – 4 Amelia O’Brien, 6 EmmaKelly, 7 Jasmine Timmons McEneaney,13 Alicia Slawinski, 16 Lucy Maher, 19 Hannah Ryan, 31 Ria Quinn, 35 Amy Byrne, 36 Lola Long, 39 Beth Cooney. For the boys – 1 Darragh O’Callaghan, 3 Daire O’Flaherty, 5 Emmett Murphy, 8 Fiach Crowley, 9 Peter Quinn, 12 Aidan Malone, 21 Daithi Egan, 24 Jack O’Neill, 26 Charlie Canavan, 30 John Heslin.

And then it was on to the under 13’s and fair dues to our under 12’s in both boys and girls. Moving up an age they made themselves felt and enabled both teams to come away with the bronze medals. The girls were -4 Sinead Cormack, 16 Ellen Cormack, 17 Kara Canavan, 21 Faye Moore, 22 Emma Kennedy, 26 Clodagh Maye, 39 Emily Long, 41 Emily McDonald. And the boys – 7 Paul Millea, 8 Kyrell Mtinsi, 21 Thomas Hayes, 22 Shay Molloy, 29 John Bradley.

The under 15 girls finsihed 4th with Eimear Cormack 7th and Hannah Quinn 12th qualifing for Leinster via the county team. Ruth Crowley and Evelyn McEvoy were 15th and 16th respectively. The boys failed to field a team. The three who did field did well – 13 Donnacha Maher, 14 Paddy Beggan, 16 David Long.

All our U17’s go through to Leinster. Girls – 2 Issabelle Burke, 3 Alexia Albertin. Boys – 5 Matthew McCarthy, 6 Ruairi McEvoy.

It was gold for everyone U19. The girls had team gold with 2 Maeve Richardson, 3 Eleanor Godden, 4 Ria O’Grady. Cathal O’Reilly did his usual 1st place finish. Well done – athletes, coaches, parents. 

Our men over 45 won silver team led by Graham Bourne in 2nd, Paul Phelan 11th and Ashley Godden13th.
