The county club cross-country opened with a bang in Conahy today. The day started with uneven age juvenile relays and finished with the 2020 senior cross-country (postponed because of the Covid 19 Pandemic). Our under 11s were out in force with six teams – three boys teams and three girls teams – competing. And winning. The boys took first with Peter Quinn, Fiach Crowley and Daire O’Flaherty. They also took second place with Emmett Murphy, Paddy Gibbs and Aidan Nolan. And they also had a competitive group in Dara Foley, Jack O’Neill and Darragh O’Callaghan coming 4th. The girls showed an amount of class. One team with Amelia O’Brien, Alicja Slawinski and Jasmine Timmons McEneaney won the gold medals. Ava Clune, Lucy Maher and Hannah Purcell took 6th place ahead of an outstanding performance by a third team of Ria Quinn, Brid Farrell and Beth Cooney .
Moving from under 11 to under 13 the news was still exciting. Martha Bergin, Kate Maher and Ellen Daly were first team home claiming the gold medals. Our other girls under 13 team – Clodagh Maye, Rachel O’Sullivan and Emily Downey – gave a good account of themselves to finish 11th.. Our under 13 boys ran well to place 5th. The team was Kyrell Mtinsi, Eamon Clune and Joshua Malone.
Our under 15 girls had two teams in action and both teams got in the medals. Aoibhe Quinn, Ruth Crowley and Aine Foley won silver , while Hannah Quinn, Georgina Geoghegan and Ella Wall won bronze.
The boys under 17 – Keelan Gray, Matthew McCarthy and Paddy Kelly – placed second to claim the silver medals.
In the open under 9 races our girls were truly outstanding. 1 Julia Daly, 2 Ella O’Flaherty, 3 Hannah O’Brien, 4 Isabelle Quaglia. And Theo Crowley was 4th in the boys race
Our SENIOR MEN running for the first time in many years without one or other of both Brian Maher and Toss Hayes faced a major challenge. However with Eoin Everard leading the field and winning individual gold, and supported by James Ledingham 4th, Eamon O’Connor 8th, Padraic Ruane 9th and Paul Phelan 25th they were equal to the challenge and consequently retained the senior shield scoring 22 points. Gowran were 2nd with 34 points andSt Senan’s were third with 57 points .
