Grace Richardson, competing for her college - New York City, had super runs this weekend at the D111 NCAA event in Virginia Beach. On Friday, running in the 5000 and making a break on the final lap to take the lead only to be caught just before the line. Her time of 16.26 is a healthy new PB. On Saturday she went to the line for the start of the 3000m. Another great run brought her another silver in 9.40. Well done Grace.
The function room in the Pembroke hotel was packed last night for our annual awards ceremony. Club Chairman, John Maye, got the proceedings under way by welcoming all and complimenting all the athletic performances during 2023. A photographic compilation by club PRO, Nicholas Dunphy, was shown during the presentations. Sean Lynch read the citations and Club Competition secretary made the presentations. The evening concluded with a delicious selection of sandwiches accompanied by cocktail sausages and chicken jougons. 10 Mile was the story this weekend. Leanne Butler ran in the Nass 10 mile coming home as 6th female in 69.27. Nearer home a good contingent of club members took on the STOOK 10 Mile. Excellent results were recorded. Among them were:- Rory Conlon 3rd O/40 (70.27), Sean OhArgain 3rd O/50 (83.25), Lisa Collins 2O/40(72.20), Leisa O'Connell 1st O/50 (78.10), Rhoda Griffith 1st O/55 (81.56), Orla O'Gorman (85.10), Jackie Varley (1.43.38), Andrew Smith 1.38.08 and Martina McGrath 2.01.23. While the top athletes in the world were competing in Glasgow our top athletes were giving their all at the Leinster Juvenile Championships in Athlone. In excess of twenty-five medals was a major achievement at this competitive championships. But there was even better than medals by two of our under 16 girls. Molly Daly continued her high profile with a double championship best performance - first in the 200m heat and again in the final when she clocked 24.57. The County Kilkenny Athletics Board held its annual awards night in Langton's last night. KCH featured highly among the recipients. Five club members received County Star Awards:- Daniel Greene - Juvenile Cross Country; Adam Slawinski - Juvenile Track and field; Cathal O'Reilly - Senior Cross Country; Noah Gilmore - Junior Athlete and Claire Dermody shared the Road Award.
