Today was a day to remember after a really fine performance by our athletes in the Leinster Intermediate CC. Both men and ladies had sufficient numbers in the field which inspired confidence from the start.
The men did exceptionally well to take first team medals – achieved by team running – Paddy Kelly 6th and Eamon O’Connor 8th worked together; John Behan 10th and Dean Rowe 16th also worked together. Then we had Padraig Ruane 35, Trevor Spillane 48 and Derek Alyward 50. The result was KCH first team and the first four also helping the county team to gold.
The ladies were also running well with four coming home together – 29 Robyn McDonnald, 30 Tara Brett, 31 Katie Dillon Keane and 32 Jill Kavanagh. Nuala FitzGibbon 12th and Grainne Behan 24th helped the team into 5th place with Nuala and Grainne winning Leinster silver with the county team.
Also on the programme were the juvenile cross country relays. KCH had three teams running and came home with gold, silver and bronze. The under 12 girls won bronze. The panel was Eddie Kemple, Winter Rose Moloy Jane Byrne, Eva Hoyne, Alesha Murphy and Cara Burke. Silver was won by the under 16 boys – Cameron McDonnell Butler, Daniel Greene, Sam Woodcock, and Marcus Lyons. The under 16 girls won gold – Amelia O’Brien, Katie Byrne, Emily O’Keeffe, Heidi Ryan and Marija Kraljaveck.
Meanwhile on the road three athletes from the club took on the The Great Heath 10K. Michael had a great run to take third place in 37.19. Sean Delaney finished in 39.09 while Orla Looney made it home in 49.35. Well done guys.
