While last weekend was relatively quiet this weekend was anything but with action in many quarters. 

The Leinster Juvenile Indoors in Athlone provided the major source of that action. KCH with fifty plus athletes involved had a very successful championship with in excess of twenty medals returning home. There was gold for Aaron Tyrell (U13 – 600); Cillian Maher U13 -walk)Daniel McIntyre (U13 – long jump); Daniel Greene (U15 800); Kyrell Mtinsi (U18 – 800); and Molly Daly  (U19 – 400 CBP). In a guest 1500m Pia Langton had a PB of 4.24.33.

The U12s had Eddie Kemple in 60m and 600m, Ciara Lannon in long jump, 60m and shot and Isabelle Hoyne in 60m.

There was a big turnout from the U13 cohort. Medals were won by Cillian Maher 1-walk, Nora Carroll 3-walk, Daniel McIntyre 1-long jump, 3-60m hurdles. Others performing well were Cooper Mguni, Isaac Burns, Margaret Butler, Ellen Hegerty, Maya Balcer, Daniel Quinn, And Conor Laurence Delaney with 5th in high jump and 8th in 60m hurdles.

Under 14s had best results from Beibhin O’Brien, Madeline Kemple, Julia Daly and Ellen Ryan. 

The U15s had star performers in Daniel Green 1-800m, Conor Knox 2- shot and 3rd in high jump and long jump. Cameron McDonnell Butler placed 9th in the 60m.

The U16s were very much to the fore with outstanding performances in many events. In the 800m Amelia O’Brien, Katie Byrne and Marija Kraljevic placed 3rd, 6th and 9th respectively. Emily O’Keeffe had a fine PB of 5.14.09 in the 1500. Ella Trayer did well in both 60m and 400m. Fiach Crowley had silver in long jump, bronze in 200m and a 4th in 60m hurdles. Kelly Charters won silver in high jump and 4th in 60m hurdles as well as 7th in long jump. And what about the sprint quartet – Mia Brennan 3rd in 60m hurdles, 7th in 200m; Mollie Rose Keegan 5th in 60m and 6th in 200m; Jasmine Timmons McEneaney 3rd in 60m and 3rd in 200m; and Ella Sorohan 4th in both 60m and 200m. Aidan Malone was 10th in 60m.

The U17s were superb – Ellen Daly (2-200 & 3- 60); Sinead Cormack 5-800; Danny Direen 5-60m & 7-200m; Eoghan O’Farrell 3-60m and 4 – 200m; Patrick Wall 2-200 & 4- 400; Ana Moyano 2- long jump & 9 -60m; and Aisling Phelan 2 – 60m. 

The U18s had Kyrell Mtinsi winning gold in the 800m, Charlie Lyons coming 4th in 60 and 6th in 200, and Victor Lamph with double silver – 60m hurdles and 200m.

The U19s had Molly Daly winning gold in the 400m with a championship record of 54.44. Clodagh O’Callaghan won silver in the 800m. Cathal Rossiter had a PB of 55.39 with 7th in 400 and Cormac Holden placed 5th in the 800m.

While the indoor action was in Athlone there was cross country – B All Ireland  – in Abbottstown. For the U11 boys Alex O’Donovan was 25th and Daire O’Shea 53rd. The girls had a team – Isabella Hoyne, Summer Nova Molloy, Eva Hoyne, Winter Rose Molloy and Cara Burke – which finished in 8th place, The U13 girls with Kate Kelly finishing second won team gold. Other team members were Casey Cleere 19, Ella O’Flaherty 26 and Maeve O’Shea 30. Sam Woodcock had a great run to take 4th place.

ENNISCORTHY

A KCH team of Eamon O’Connor, Colm Smyth, Paddy Kelly and Padraig Ruane took on the Enniscorthy and won team gold.

SEVILLE

Four others were in Seville for the marathon – Michael Murphy 2.50.31; Ciaran Hughes 4.03.49; Kate Sugrue 3.27.11 and Gary O’Dwyer 4.03.49. 

ARMAGH

In the Armagh 3K International Breda McDonald clocked 10.25.

BOSTON

Grace Richardson was in Boston for the David Hemery Invitational and had a great PB of 15.53.59 for the 5000.
