And so we moved from a “summer’s day” in Ballycurran to what some would say a real cross-country day in Castlecomer. The rain was heavy and the wind was strong but no muck until the cars started moving for home. Our juveniles made little of the weather – perhaps the club tent helped. Grace Healy and Kimberly Walsh were medal winners in girls under 7 and Lucy Maher having been third in U8 now claimed 4th in U9. Boys U9 had Daniel McIntyre 2nd, James Healy 5th, Cillian Maher 6th and Conor Quinn 8th.
Moving to the championship races our under 11’s were brilliant – especially the girls. The five girls who won the U10 last week turned out today in the Under 11 race and claimed the bronze third place medals with Kate Kelly takingindividual silver. The boys also claimed bronze and had Darragh O’Callaghn winning silver.
Girls under 13 won gold. Thanks to a very impressive performance by Sinead Cormack – another silver medal finisher, and great running by the rest of the team especially under 12 athletes Amelia and Emma. Boys under 13 were left without a team but Robert Coogan won bronze and Fiach Crowley turned in a fine perfprmance.
Our under 15s gave us plenty to cheer about. The girls won gold led home by Clodagh O’Callaghan in first place. The boys were also in top form. Kyrell Mtinsi was superb to add u15 title to U14 gained last week. Sam Albertin was a revelation in his first cross-country race and what a turn-around by Conor Malone. What a difference a week makes!!! Team silver with just one point short of gold.
No teams U17, U19 – Christina Captain Martin won silver U17 and had Hazel Coogan and Aoife FitzGerald in support. Alexia Albertin was second U19 and also second in novice women.
Novice Men led by Graham Bourne in 7th place were third team. Other team members were Joe O’Brien, David Lawlor and John Murphy.
