The final of the national league was held in Tullamore today. This year’s league had two rounds – the opening round and the final. There were six divisions – three for men (premier, division 1 and county) and three for women (premier, division 1 and county). KCH competed in the Men’s Premier Division where they finished in seventh place. Nicholas Dunphy gathered nine points with first place in the 1500m walk. Cathal O’Reilly did likewise in the 5000m. Dean Brennan made a welcome return to claim third place in the Weight For Distance. Most of the team was made up of juveniles – Adam Slawinski, Myles Hewlitt, William Nugent, Louis Raggett, Ruairi McEvoy, Noah Gilmore. Aaron Barron completed the ten man team who between them competed in sixteen events and scored 67 points. The reality is we need to score about twice that amount to make the top spot. That can be achieved with a full team competitive in at least 17 or 18 events.
