The new cross-country season got under way in the Castle Park today with a good turnout from our athletes. Despite forecasts of heavy and prolonged rain the event went ahead with very little need for umbrellas or coats. KCH athletes collected the majority of the medals. First race of the day was the over 50/s where the club had individual winners with David Lawlor and Niamh Richardson in the men’ s and women’s races. The men were third club with David, Brendan Phelan 6th, Sena O’hHArgain 11th and Martin Dowling 14th.
Under 7 girls had good results with Heidi Guilfoyle and Summer Nova. The boys were well served by John O’Dwyer, Joe O’Neill, Finn McGrath and Mickey George.
The under 9 girls had gold and silver with Eddie Kemple and Winter Rose Molloy. Others to impress were Rose Devine, Alisha Murphy, Elle Costello and Lucy Maher. Best for the boys were Joe Phelan and Jonah Cleere. Packing well were John Kelly, Brian O’Callaghan, Cian McIntyre and Henry Trayer.
KCH were particularly dominant in the relays. The U11s had first and second with the girls and first, second and third for the boys. The under 13s were equally successful with the girls first, second and third teams while the boys were first and second. The under 15 girls also had first, second and third teams wile the boys had first team. At under 17 the girls places first and third.
In the junior and senior mixed relay races the story was also good the KCH winning both races. Well done all and best wishes for continued success for the rest of the season.
