Just three of our members took on this year's National Masters which were held in the Morton Stadium. Graham Bourne turned in his now regular golden performance winning the O/50 100m hurdles, triple jump and 3000m steeplechase (11.49.40). Ashling Burns took the bronze in the O/40 javelin with a PB of 24.72. It was gold for James Ledingham in the 800m O/40 (2.03.79).
South East Greenway A KCH team pulled off a worthy achievement n this year's South East Greenway 5K. Team Members were Eoin Everard (14.31), who held off strong competition in a sprint finish, Eamon O'Connor (15.26), Padraig Ruane and Emma Ayres (18.04). Others who had PBs for the distance were Trevor Spillane(18.25), Ian Hayes (18.43),David Bird 19.01), Jacinta Mulroe (19.10) and Neil Gunning 21.37). Knocknarea 8mile in Sligo- David FitzGerald 51.55 Athy half - Emma Ayres 1.31.48, Kate Sugrue 1.33.00. Youghal half - Andy Hanrahan 1.36.37.
Congratulations to our three athletes who qualified for this year's world junior championships which were held in Hayward Field, Eugene, Oregon, USA. Pia Langton qualified for the 800m and 1500m but competed in the 800m. There she placed 4th in heatno 4 in 2.07.06 to qualify for the semis. She finished 7th in the semi in 2.07.41 which was insufficient to proceed to the final. Kate Maher and Molly Daly were both selected for the 4x400m relay panel. NATIONALS KCH were well represented at the national championships held in Morton Stadium, Santry on Saturday and Sunday. Most impressive were Cliodhna Manning winning her heat of the 400m (53.52) and Eoin Everard 2nd in the 1500m semi-final(3.52.09) on Saturday. Neither took part in the finals on Sunday. Other performances included Tom Murphy 4th /3000m steeplechase(10.11.95). IOWA Peter Lynch was in action in the US. He ran in the seven mile BIX7 in Davenport, USA, where he placed 9th in 32.36. Despite a tricky hilly course and the short distance he was with the leading group for most of the race. the race was won by Moroccan , Mohammed El Youssfi in 32.07. NATIONAL The national 10 mile was held in the Phoenix Park today. Ger Forde took individual bronze in 50.09; Other participants were Jackie Varley 1.41.23 and Jill Kavanagh 2.02.22. NIGHT OF 5K PBs Will Fox travelled to Arklow and finished third in 15.30.
Six athletes from the club took part in the AAI Games in Morton stadium today. Alex Cullen, back from injury, had a PB with second place in the 400m (47.18). Eoin Everard, fit as ever, was second in the 1500 (3.57.23). Kate Maher had a PB of 24.22 finishing 3rd in the 200. Aisling Phelan went in the 100m (12.46), Clodagh O'Callaghan in 1500 and Kyrell Mitsny (1500 403.36). Mia Brennan was also in action competing in the under 16 National Combined events. Our juveniles have been looking outward in recent times as athletes are being selected for international events. SCHOOLS Patrick Wall and Victor Lamph were selected for the SIAB on The Mary Peters track in Belfast. Both represented their respective schools with quality performances. Victor clocked a PB of 48.32 when winning the 400m and Patrick had a time of 58.36 to win 4th place in the 400m hurdles. THE NATIONALS Day 3 on the national juveniles was held in sweltering heat in Tullamore. Times would therefore not be expected to be broken. That didn't bother Victor Lamph as he sprinted to gold in the 400m hurdles. Other results were - Under 15 Daniel Greene 6th (1500 - 4.32.86); Marcus Lyons 12th (200 - 26.69). The sun was up and the roads were hot but the runners were out and about. July 1st - Dundrum Coillte 10K - Billy Coogan came home under the 30m to place second in 29.59.
