KCH got 2023 off to a flying start with a great turnout in the Castle Park today. Probably the largest ever turnout by the club for a cross country event. Not alone were the juveniles to the fore but the adults and veterans also made their presence felt. It was great to see some nine O/50s in action with Niamh Richardson taking gold and the men’s team also getting the gold. In the mixed relays KCH won the junior and were second in the senior.
Approximately 20 under sevens were a sight to behold as they ran with abandon and many bringing home medals. Maeve Brennan and John Kelly were the respective leaders in the girls and boys under seven. It was a similar story in the under nine races with Robyn Lyons Teehan leading in our squad of girls and Connor Kelly the leader for the boys.
KCH was dominant in the juvenile relays particularly in the girls events where gold was won in each race and in what has to be a record for participation having five teams in the girls under 17 race. Team placings – Girls:- Under 11 first, fourth, eight and ninth; Under 13 first, second, third and sixth; Under 15 first and second; Under 17 first, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh. Boys:- Under 11 second, third, sixth, ninth and twelfth ; Under 13 second and seventh; Under 15 third; Under 17 second, third and fifth.
