It was a long and successful day of athletics at TUS, Athlone, today for the national junior and under 23 indoors. KCH had nine junior and one U23 competing and they did us proud. Aoife Quinn went in the 60m and 200m clocking times of 8.37 and 27.36 respectively. Blaithin Holden competed in 60m hurdles and 200. Her respective times were 9.84 and 27.46. Grace Delahunty did the 200m in 27.10. Molly Daly won her heat in 24.54 and an unfortunate lane infringement led to disqualification in the final. All four ran in the final of the 4×200 relay where they placed 6th in 1.45.47. Pia Langton had the 800m and was a comfortable 3rd in the semi-final in 2.19.68 but a hamstring problem caused her to pull up during the final.
Our junior men fared somewhat better. Noah Gilmore was 6th in 60m (7.15) and 7th in long jump. Adam Slawinski had 4th place finishes in both 60m (7.11) and 200m (22.71). Alex Cullen won bronze in the long jump (6.36) and finished 3rd in 400m heat (51.63). All three plus William Nugent took gold in the 4×200 relay final in 1.33.35.
Cathal O’Reilly had a fine run in the U23 1500m. Completing the course in 3.53.55 he brought home the gold. Well done all.
