Not for the first time this summer everything was hot in Tullamore – especially the weather and the competition. Rory McGabhann took both in his stride and with a powerfull new PB of 1.96m he took the gold in the under 18 national high jump. Congratulations to a great competitor and congrats also to Paddy O’Dwyer, the high jump coach.
Shay McEvoy clocked 4.07.26 to take second placein the 1500m under 18 – a race which included clubmates Kevin Burns (11th) and James Kearney (19th). Following Rory’s gold and Shay’s silver Ella Richardson completed the medals with bronze in the girls 1500m under 19. Ella’s time was 4.50.14. Ciara Deely, having won the semi-final, came fourth in a very competitive girls 200m under 19 final.
Also in action today were Rachel Leahy, in the 250m hurdles under 15, and Jennifer Leahyin 300m hurdles under 17. Jennifer also competed in the high jump and secured fifth place in both events.
