Our distance runners were very much in evidence at the national juvenile track and field championships in Tullamore at the weekend.The club had three runners in the 3000m under 18 race. Shay McEvoy took the seven and a half laps in his stride and had a comfortable lead when crossing the finish line in 8.51.27 to take the gold. Kevin Burns finished 9th and Luke Whelan was 14th. There was another excellent performance from James Kearney who won bronze in the under 18 steeplechase. In the 3000m under 17 Cathal Kearney placed 10th and John Mudowney was 12th. Danny Ring and Alex Culen went in the 60m hurdles under 13. Alex finishing 7th in the final had the better day. Amelie Foley had a good weekend with 8th in the long jump and a PB of 10.67seconds when she placed 6th in the final of the 80m.
