Our older juveniles had their first day of Leinster track and field action in Tullamore today. And a good day it was with sixteen individual medals won. There were 4 gold, 6 silver and 6 bronze. U12 Ruth Crowley won gold in the 60m hurdles. Evan Cullen did likewise in the under 13 hurdles. It was gold also for Patrick Lacey in U13 long jump where KCH had a one two as Louie Raggett took the silver. Roisin Burns and Ella Wall were also in action for the U13s with Roisin doing the better of the two finishing 5th in the long jump.
Alex Cullen had the best day for our under 14s with 2nd in 75m hurdles and 3rd in the long jump. Louisa Gilmore placed 3rd in 300m and Blaithin Holden competing in three events had her best result with a 3rd in 75m hurdles. Danny Ring’s best result was 4th in 75m hurdles while Sean Young was 6th in high jump. Other u14 competitors were Ruairi McEvoy, Aine White, Emily Smith and Amy Pieterse.
There were medals for all our under 15 squad – Silver for Ella Delahunty in 300m and for Abbie O’Brien in the triple jump. Both also had fifth places – Ella in triple jump and Abbie in the 200. Bronze was the result for Orla Kenny and Conor Byrne in triple jump and 200m respectively. The aforementioned three U15 girls combined with Amelie Foley to represent the county in the inter-county relays where they won gold.
Tom Lodge was our sole medal winner u16 with silver in the 1500m. Rachel Leahy came close with 4th in the high jump. And Jennifer Oboh was 5th in the 200m final. Robbie Cord competed well on his Leinster track debut in the 1500m.
Some excellent results were recorded by our three u16 athletes. Jennifer Leahy scored twice – 2nd in both long jump and 100m hurdles. Cathal Kearney was 4th in 800m and John Muldowney 7th in 3000m. Rory McGabhann added another gold to his collection with victory in the high jum,p U19. well done all.
