Gold was very much the order of the day for our athletes at Day 2 of the county championships in Scanlon Park today. The 5000m proved a happy hunting ground for our adults. Claire Dermody and Cathal O’Reilly won their respective senior events and Kate Millea and Graham Bourne had similar success in the masters. Jacinta Mulroe and Eileen Morgan won silver in senior and masters respectively. Kate Millea added a further gold with victory in the Masters 200m. Rory McGabhann completed the scoring for the adults with gold in the high Jump.
And if there were golden achievements for the adults there were also golds for our juveniles particularly in the 200m events. Our juveniles won eight out of the ten races and added a number of silvers and bronze as well. There were clean sweeps in three of the races – Girls U14 (Molly Daly, Ruth Crowley, Aoibhe Quinn), U15 (Pia Langton, Grace Delahunty, Hannah Quinn) and Boys U16 (Adam Slawinski, Alex Cullen, William Nugent). The other 200m medallists were Boys Under 14 – 2 Oisin Henderson, 3 Eoin Moore; Boys U15 – 1 Patrick Lacey; Boys U17 – 1 Harry Boyle, 2 Conor Byrne; U18/19 – 1 Tom Dooley, 2 Dylan Deegan. Girls U16- 1 Blaithin Holden; U17 – 2 Abbie O’Brien; U18/19 – 1 Tara McGuire, 2 Stephanie FitzPatrick. The High Jumps also had some excellent results. The Boys:- U14 – 2 Diarmuid Behan; U15 – 1 Patrick Lacey; U16 – 1 Alex Cullen, 2 Adam Slawinski. The Girls :- U14 – 1 Evelyn McEvoy, 3 Sarah Richardson; U15 -3 Ella Wall; U16 – 1 Aoife Hickey.
