Day 1 of the County Kilkenny track and field championships were held in Scanlon Park today. In all over thirty events, covering juvenile, junior, senior and masters were held with club members competing in most. Medals were won in all except for Boy’s Discus and Men’s javelin. In individual events club members won 115 medals(49 gold, 37 silver and 29 bronze). There was also considerable success in the juvenile relays with ten (5 gold, 4 silver, 1 bronze)sets of medals coming to the club.
There were many outstanding performances. Of special note were Under 13 boys 500m, under 14 girls 800m and girls under 16 200m and 800m where club members took 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. Under 13 500m – 1 Aaron Tyrell, 2Daniel McIntyre, 3 Daniel Quinn; U14 Girls 800m -1 Maeve O’Shea, 2 Orla O’Keeffe, 3 Casey Cleere; Under 16 girls 200m – 1 Mia Brennan, 2 Kelly Charters, 3 Ella Trayer; Under 16 girls 800m – 1 Amelia O’Brien, 2 Katie Byrne, 3 Maria Kraljevic.
Top individual juvenile goes to Cormac Holden with three first place finishes – 100m, 200m, triple jump. There were many double golds – Daniel McIntyre – high jump and hurdles; Zoe Beck u17 – 100m, 200m; Mia Brennan – long jump, 200m; Daniel Greene u15 – 400m, 1500m; Eoghan O’Farrell u17 – 100m, 200m; Cillian Daly Junior – 100m, 200m. And then there was Graham Bourne – Senior 1st in triple jump and high jump and in Masters O/50 – 1st in 100m, 200m and shot .
Other gold medal winners were – Hurdles:- U12 Roisin Hyland; U14 Raine McKeever; U16 Kelly Charters. Sprints:- U8 Fionn Quinn; U13 Zachery Marc; U15 Marcus Lyons; U16 Aidan Malone; U17 Zoe Beck; U17 Eoghan O’Farrell; U19 Cormac Holden; U19 Muireann Holden; U14 Beibhinn O’Brien, Senior Brendan O’Driscoll, Junior Cillian Daly; Novice Andrew McGovern; MastersO/50 Graham Bourne . Distance:- U12 Eva Hoyne; U17 Ellen Cormack; Senior Tom Murphy. Long Jump:- U16 Mia Brennan; Triple jump:- U16 Emily O’Keeffe. Javelin/Turbo Javelin:- U9 – Ella Burke; U10 Olivia Foster; U16 Heidi Ryan; Senior Aisling Burns. Shot:- U11 Cian McIntyre; U16 Fiach Crowley. Hammer:- Senior Niamh Spratt O’Shea; U16 Landon Ryan.
