Our adults were out in force in Gowran today for the Leinster Road Championships. The men opted to compete in the Novice only. With eight team members they were in a good place and when James Ledingham took individual gold the team were set to bring home medals. Mossy Roantree , in fourth place, was next to score followed by Padraig Ruane in 13th. Eamon O’Connor, making his return to athletics, completed the team score to win the silver medals. James, Mossy and Padraig scored on the winning county team. Conor Bolger, Graham Bourne, Declan Walshe and John Phelan were the backup team.
The ladies were also out in force and competed in both Novice and Masters. The Novice team consisted of Caitriona Muldowney 4th, Caoimhe Foley 8th, Clare Dermody 16th and Sheila O’Callaghan 21st. Scoring 49 points the team finished in fourth place just one point outside the medals. Caitriona, who a short time earlier today had won the Carer’s Mini Marathon in Kilkenny, won gold with the county team.
The Master Ladies had considerable success. Donna Dunne 8th, Lisa Brennan 10th and Cathy Millett 12th placed third in the over 35 category. Donna and Lisa also won silver on the county team. Star of the day was Cathy Millett. Apart from her bronze with the over 35s she was first home in the over 50 category and she also led the county over 50 team to gold. Hillary O’Neill, Oonagh Guilfoyle, Sarah Gough and Joya Burns provided the backup. A great overall and enjoyable day.
