There were some excellent performances by a number of our athletes at the Leinster Schools track and field finals held in Santry this week. Standing out on its own was Ciara Deely’s victory in the senior 400m. And not just because of the win but the time she achieved 54.99 gives her the qualifying time for the world juniors next July. Other Loreto students to show well were Becky Shannon, 3rd in Intermediate Pole Vault; Annie O’Connor and Ella Richardson both fourth place finishers in 800m and 1500m respectively. Another remarkable result was Shay McEvoy for St Kierans taking the senior 1500m title with school mate, Adam FitzPatrick, finishing in second place. James Kearney placed third in the senior steeplechase while in the minor 1100m Tom Lodge had 4th place also for St Kieran’s. Lauren Gleeson, Presentation, finished second in the senior 100m. Rory McGabhan cleared 1.85m in the high jump scoring a fourth place for Kilkenny College. Johnny Collins , CBS, placed sixth in the senior 1500m final.
