While it might appear from the report on the National League final that KCH are short of “distance” runners the opposite is in fact the case. The distance people have been active all year with athletes like Cathal O’Reilly, Eoin Everard, Brian Maher etc scoring in national and international events. Then we had Graham Bourne turning in a mighty performance to place 6th (2.52.03) in the Viking Waterford marathon in June.
More recently it has been the half marathons that have stirred the sweat. Up in Tullamore at the end of August Diarmuid Cullen led the KCH troup home in 1.20.20. Others involved were Mark O’Duffy, Declan Walshe, Ciaran Hughes, Claire Dermody (1.31.27), Michael Grogan, Andy Hanrahan, Mary Prendergast, Eddie Hawe, David Buckley, Geraldine Grogan.
Paul Moran headed up to Longford to claim 2nd place O/45 in 1.20.49.
The Waterford Greenway was held on 3rd September. Tony Lauhoff was first KCH finsiher in 1.32.38. Many PBs were recorded. Lisa Brennan clocked 1.32.37 and Anita Byrne’s time was 1.32.47. Others achieving good times were Roseann Knox, Billy Quinn, Anne Marie Shortall, Seamus Kavanagh, Brian Keane, Aislung Gannon, Rita McGarvey, Trish Campion.
Also in action on the third was Jamie Gahan. Jamie ran the Mick Murphy 4 mile in Wexford. Ran it in style to finish 3rd in 19.50.
